How did we actually got to Canada #vol.1

in #story7 years ago

For some people travelling by plane represents long boring uncomfortable hours on one seat. For some, it's fun stuff. And for some, it's one of most terrifying things in the whole world. Guess what is it for my love, of course, the third option. Unfortunately, two flights in one day were ahead of us. So as you can imagine the adventure begun before we even got to Canada.

Prague – Frankfurt

Short but scary. I was very tired plus my girl was stuck to me like glue at the seat. I’ve tried to calm her down but there was no chance she could fall asleep. That also means I couldn’t sleep as well. I blame the universe for that. Luckily some antidepressant pills kicked in so we could step out of the plane in Frankfurt alive and start our nonsense circle about that big airport.

Frankfurt – Toronto

When you after half an hour realize you are not at the right terminal it could be terrifying but if your plane doesn't leave for another five hours you are fine. Little bit bothered by that but fine. Got to the right terminal, check from where you go and you think that this time it's okay.

We should have just asked first at the terminal. It could have saved us a lot of nerves but it was me who thought he is right and that’s it. So we went through the security check, one of the funniest things you could do at the airport of course. There you realize, after checking your flight ticket at the automat, that there is something wrong but you are actually not sure what exactly is wrong.

At first, there was hall: A, B. We were there so it was fine. However, it changed to hall C. That was not fine. We decided to go to hall C. Little bit of walking did not kill anybody ever, but when you are going the same way for like fourth time it starts to be annoying. Luckily, my love was still on those antidepressants so she was not that angry.

As a right woman, she told me to go ask where we should actually go. I went to do it. Felt a little bit stupid though when I found out, we were on the right spot before. So there’s that and we had to go back through the same security check again. We didn’t want to look stupid so we took the check from a different side where no one could recognize us off course. And then we just had to wait.

Two more pills and we were good to go. I had to swear I would not fall asleep right after we board the plane but it was really hard. Worship the man who invented those pills cause it put my girl to sleep instantly and I was free to sleep as well. After all, this flight was significantly more quiet than the previous one. Slept almost the whole way to Toronto. We even missed the food for the first time because we were sleeping so deeply. It almost never happens to us.

In a way, it was a day when every little thing becomes a problem but nothing is serious. Checking at immigration in Toronto was pretty cool. Then again we were at the wrong terminal. Getting to the right one so we could catch our bus to Hamilton was cool too. However, get to the right floor at the airport turns out to be almost impossible for us that day. We don’t think we are that stupid but those elevators were beyond us almost. Just imagine getting out from the elevator four times and every time on a wrong floor. How does that evil machine work? But don't worry, on the fifth try we got out right where we wanted.

The rest of the way was luckily pretty calm.

Guess we'll try to be more Canadian from now on.

my partner has no issues with flights, but we are waiting for our visa to reach this beautiful country. how's hamilton ?

How to say it. It's different. My girl didn't want to go to some huge city for a start so we tried Hamilton. It's a really good location. Toronto is close, Boston is close and Niagara Falls also. However, not much is going on in here but I expect that would be the same in most of the smaller cities. Good thing is that Hamilton is not so expensive.
We're planning to move to Alberta during February, Calgary probably so we can tell you then how is it there.

So did you find a job already even before moving here ?

Not actually. We were looking for some after our arrival. We were also looking for an apartment afterwards.
We probably got lucky. Both of those two things we got in less than two weeks. Even though we were told that it is hard to find a job in Hamilton. However, we have a visa just for a year, so we were not looking for some really fancy jobs. We were okay with almost anything. I'm in a restaurant for now and my girl is in a kitchen in one of the big stores they have here.
