Start your own business, they said, trust me you will regret nothing as much as that. The endless pile of bills is driving me crazy. It doesn't matter how much I pay, that pile of paper just keeps getting bigger. I'm a teacher, for goodness sake, not the school's administration department, let alone the tax authorities, who clearly eat the best of everyone.
You have to take good care of yourself, they say. Take care of yourself. How, when do I have to arrange things? I can plan as much as my agenda is thick, but there's always someone who needs attention. I'll make a cup of tea, the bitch says while she saddles me with her paperwork. How crazy can a person be, and why don't I just say NO?
Damn, how long have I been here now? That water has to be fetched from the city pump and the tea leaves picked in China, and the fire probably won't be burning either, so I can forget about that cup.
She gets up and listens at the door to see if she can hear anything. It's quiet.
Bills, bills, even more bills. Hey, what's that? It looks like a love letter. Strange, it hasn't been opened and the date on the wax seal is from 1517. That's a long time ago, that person must be dead, I think I'll read the letter and if it's not interesting, I can always burn it...
Burn it? I have a good idea. That idiot won't be bringing me my tea anyway and has never looked at my calculations, whether it's been paid and how much is left in the school fund (the answer is zero, nothing, nada).
My head is pounding like crazy, I pack my stuff and am out of here.
The teacher stuffs the pile of forms into her bag and leaves the room. A fresh breeze is blowing and she feels relieved. She's retiring in a few hours and by then she'll have used the papers to light the stove..
