Pure Inspiration (NYC/Week One)

in #story7 years ago (edited)

As many of you know I’m in New York City these next few weeks to work with @dougkarr and @bakerchristopher on the HardFork Series. The first week here in the city proved to be extremely productive and exciting.

New York City is overflowing with varying degrees of kinetic energy and is a huge source of inspiration for the creative mind. Most of this trip has been HardFork-related but we have managed to do some exploring as well.

The slideshow below is a collection of pictures from an afternoon in Manhattan, featuring Chinatown and SoHo.

This next montage are various pictures in and around our Airbnb in Brooklyn.

Once you adjust to the energy of this city has a sort of strange seduction. It’s a bit like having the entire world at your fingertips, 24/7.

I’m convinced that traveling here to write was a great choice. As the three of us sat down face-to-face this week pure creative magic happened. The city is mind-blowing melting pot of cultures and creativity. I’ve learned that the greatest fiction is inspired by the real world and there’s no city on that planet that’s more real than New York.

I’m so honored to be working with this team of incredible people. I can’t wait to share with you all what we’ve written so far. We’re building an incredibly rich, believable, and complex dystopian world that I hope humanity never has to suffer through.

Maybe this series will serve as a subtle wake up that it’s time to tread a more decentralized path? I certainly hope so.

This week has been epic...pure inspiration and I’m so grateful for it all.

I hope you enjoy these photos. Have a wonderful weekend!

Yours in the chain,

Eric

What a wonderful week it’s been!! Crazy thrilling to get all this time to work together in the big city!

It sure has been, Doug! This time is going way too fast but I think we've made great use of it. This is all so mind-blowing and exciting. I hope this serendipity never stops. Thanks so much for the wonderful hospitality and friendship.

New York is a big and complicated city. You can observe a lot there.

Beautiful slides and your creative spirit speaks for itself! I am sure that together with your friends you will create a masterpiece and give us your creative work! Thank you @ericvancewalton

Good fortunes Mr. @ericvancewalton!
I can hardly wait to impart to all of you what we've composed up until this point.
We are enthusiastically sitting tight for this. All the best

Thanks! Oh yes, we can't wait to share what we've done. Soon!

Finally, I met a great traveler I can say a real traveler who posted not only content, not only describing his visit to that place but a VIDEOS as well which is really showing the exact place where you visited.

I'm inspired that you are at a time poet, traveler, writer ,and much more qualities you have. That's awesome.

I always wish to visit New York City once in my life but currently I'm not in this situation but I will visit this place soon to explore this great journey.

I followed your team page @hardfork-series as well and on FB too. Have a wonderful WEEKEND to you too. :)

I'm glad you enjoyed the post! We appreciate you following @hardfork-series as well! Thanks!

Well that slideshow of Brooklyn looks like it might have been taken on the set of a post apocalyptic movie.

I really love the jazzy music ensemble you put together for the slideshow as well.

Looks like you guys had a great time. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your journey.

Thanks, @jeezzle! This area we're in is still in transition. Just a few years ago it was a pretty dangerous neighborhood. We haven't felt unsafe at all though.

You have described the energy of that city very well. It is indeed if you have the entire world at your fingertips (I hope that is the word you meant) 24/7.
I have been in NY four times, three times on a visit for a week and once for my work and I experienced it that way also.
I wish you and the team a very good and productive time in this glorious city.

Thanks, @clio! I fixed that typo...oops! : ) How did you like the city when you visited? We miss green grass and trees. Where we're staying in Brooklyn there's concrete and pavement as far as the eye can see.

The first time was in the early seventies, we bought a car in New York and drove to LA and back, the last time was a few years ago for my work as a principal. We visited schools in NY and Pennsylvania. We stayed in Manhattan so we had a big park! For me it was a great feeling to walk the streets I saw so many times on TV, to visit MoMa (I felt like a little girl in a candy store) and other museums, Brooklyn Bridge, Harlem, Battery Park and the surroundings where once the Twin Towers were. The schools upset me sometimes, but I saw a lot of motivated teachers. In others words, it was fantastic and I hope to come back one day.

Smiling while reading...great that the work is coming along so well and such a great city isn't it! See you in a few ;-))

It is such a great city to work in. There's inspiration around every corner. Looking forward to hanging out on Tuesday!

You write your new York work moments in a story . Very nice Eric

Great photos- nice music choice too. That brought back a few memories - but when I visited is was covered in snow :D

Thanks my friend, glad you enjoyed the slideshows!
