The Songwriting Journey

in #story6 years ago

The creation of a song looks different for every artist.

Sharing my music on Steemit, I want to share the journey behind each song along the way.

Everybody has a song in them.

Maybe sharing my creative process will help other writers or creatives feel more comfortable within their own process.
I know if somebody would have told me something as simple as, "sometimes the song takes a while, there is nothing to rush."
That bit of info I would have shifted how I saw myself as a writer.

I spent a lot of time thinking that I maybe I wasn't a song writer just because I wasn't one to finish a song quickly.

Some songs come out quickly in a moment or two. While others just take awhile and you can't really rush it. Like a butterfly breaking through a cocoon. You just can't pull the butterfly through the cocoon as it just begins to poke a hole in it or you risk destroying the butterfly.

One style isn't necessarily better quality than the other either. Some of the most popular songs ever written were written in a matter of minutes...others over a life time.

It's all just a process.

There is one thing that I have found consistent in every song that comes through me. Every song has a truth, a part of my experience, or something about me personally.

This is what makes it my art, my craft, my therapy and my release.

You can't really judge the product to harshly either because you never know what others will love.
We as creators just need to find our own version of truth.

The real beauty is when you connect with another in that same truth.

That's really why we're all doing what we're doing here anyhow, connection.
