SteeveBot Starts Rewarding Steeve Community’s Most Appreciated Content
Dear Steemians and Steevians,
In our last post we informed you about the Steeve Upvote Program. The goal is to reward good content discovered thanks to the unique combination of Steeve’s AI-based recommendations and manual curation by the community of Steeve users.

How Are Post Selected?
Aggregating opinions of Steeve community and selecting posts which are worth the upvote is a hard task. It would be simple to look just at the number of votes but we know well that the upvotes are only a fraction of the activity people do on Steem. There are also comments, resteems, and ratings (available on Steeve only). Combining these into one number that reflects the overall engagement on a post will be an ongoing task. We will be further refining it as we learn more about the activity and preferences of our users. So these are the current rules according to which SteeveBot is giving its upvotes:
Eligible posts- Main posts only.
- Created between 3 and 6.5 days ago.
- Sorted by engagement.
- Based on votes, comments, resteems, ratings and the number of views.
- Just the last action from every user counts.
- Number of views = The number of times the post has been actually clicked and opened, divided by how many times the post was shown to the user - on feed or in the explore section
- All the scores are summed up into one number: the engagement score.
Explanation
New posts need to gather some traction before it can be decided whether they are worth the vote. Also, we want to give you, the curators, enough time to discover all the hidden gems ;) That’s why SteeveBot considers posts at least 3 days old. The 6.5 days is there because the last 12 hours before post’s payout only downvotes are allowed by the blockchain due to security reasons.
Only one - the last one - action is taken from each user because some actions can be taken more than once - for example comments or viewing posts. In this case, it’s a prevention of abuse. But you can also change the value of your vote and rating. So the last action should reflect the user’s opinion the best.
Upvote Strategy
All eligible posts are ranked by their engagement score. The best post is selected and upvoted every 2.4 hours, the time necessary for the voting power to recover to 100%.
In future when the number of highly engaged posts and the dollar value of SteeveBot’s vote increase, we will be able to divide the vote and reward more posts.

Isn't it that 'famous' users are always receiving a huge number of automated upvotes anyway, independently of the quality of their content? Would there be a way to count only manual, non-automated upvotes (of course excluding bid bot votes, too)? Probably not so easy, I guess ...
Concerning the comments: couldn't the length of the comments play a role as well (word count)? Even better would be to analyse the structure of comments anyhow (otherwise abusing users would start to create automated long comments).

That's how we are doing it! As you say, it's not easy, it's probably not 100% yet, but we are doing our best. Also for the engagement we use only activity of our users which goes via Steeve. That also helps with identifying its genuineness.
Yes, our plan is to work more on the estimate of quality of engagement in the future, but we had to start somewhere and improve gradually.
You're right, sorry for the outdated information. But the result is the same, we don't want to make the upvote in the last 12 hours as we would be wasting our voting power.

Did I understand correctly: in case I log in using steeve, and then upvote anything (or only anything recommended by steeve?), steeve will create a comment and upvote it by using my voting power? Is it also correct that you disable curation reward for these votes? If 'yes', why? Then the author has not only to upvote your comment but furthermore loses his curation reward ...
(Sorry, in case I was reading too superficial and got it wrong or my memory is misleading me.)
What is the benefit for the user to use the steeve interface? Is it to find articles that he normally wouldn't have found? So actually the author benefits ... and you think that thus in the long run STEEM will benefit because good authors earn more money?

Yes, if you upvote anything recommended by Steeve, we will automatically charge you this way for 10% of your original vote strength (if you upvote 100%, we take 10%. If 10%, then we take 1%, ...).
This is no longer true. It was supposed to be a temporary work-around for the 15 minutes reverse auction, but it didn't work anyway, so we changed it after the first day. The vote is automatically given after 15+ minutes and the curation rewards are enabled.
The main benefit of using Steeve is the recommendations. We believe that the absence of any form of content discovery outside of user's feed is seriously impairing the whole platform. It's hard for people to find new interesting authors and for new interesting authors it's hard to find the audience. That's what we strive to improve.

I'm a bit late, I've been busy with other things but I'm here now. I just wanted to say I love the idea and the work you're doing here. This is needed, since things went sideways on Steemit. I'm supporting this and am going to post using Steeve soon. Keep up the good work guys!

Love that you're transparent about this sort of stuff. I personally wouldn't mind if your posts got upvoted by the bot, but the fact that they don't gives this initiative way more credibility!
