If you want to find out how much you'll have to spend on a transaction fee to have a quicker confirmation, this tool is the best:

According to that site, currently to have a transaction compete against the rest of the mempool for getting in the next block, your fee for a common one-input, two-output transaction should be over 0.001 BTC. Or about $8 worth of BTC for a single transaction.

Sort:  

FWIW you can probably get away with half that fee if you didn't mind waiting less than a day. And transactions can be marked as replaceable. I think that's even default behavior in common clients.
