Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez was discovered to have the banned substance clenbuterol in his system (for his training camp with Gennady Golovkin). The May 5th bout doesn't seem to be in any sort of jeopardy oddly enough, but Golden Boy has a habit of slipping things under the rug.

One must question the sanctioning bodies in this scenario as the tests are put in place to prevent this exact sort of thing; why even have procedures and measures to prevent cheating if athletes can simply make a camp change and claim they are innocent in the face of blatant proof.

Oscar De La Hoya who not only owns and runs, but represents Golden Boy Promotions was actually the governing body whom released the statement. It almost feels like Oscar wanted to release the news to somehow make it seem less incriminating (in terms of admitting to cheating)...
We have seen this for years, and it makes boxing fans question if Canelo was using in the last fight vs. Golovkin, and if he used for his whole career of over 40 wins with only one sole loss and one sole draw... It will be an interesting affair to see how this one wholly unfolds.

It seems the hundreds of millions already put into promotion, and the sold out Vegas arena is enough to abandon integrity... but this is boxing, and this isn't surprising or new. It really should fall on the shoulders of Golovkin in accepting the fight, but he is a mere pawn in a bigger scheme.

De La Hoya has no issue in protecting his cash cow and good friend Saul Alvarez, he sees much promise in the young man, and he isn't wrong in terms of pure skill. It is a shame the best fighters feel they need an edge in the game, I hope the fight comes to fruition under the best terms.

I was very sorry to see this. Canelo has been willing to fight the best and I am a fan of his, but this looks like he's trying to get an unfair advantage in his rematch against GGG.

Triste

100%! A shame for Jalisco, Canelo, and boxing as a sport!

I hope so too

your post is very good and I like it, I'm very glad when you stop in my post, if you do not want anything too because I'm quite happy if we become better friends receive

Probably most boxers and probably most athletes use some sort of banned or illegal substance, why not make them all legal, that way you would have a level playing field.

It’s a shame. But money talks and this fight will draw insane PPV numbers regardless of any bad press. If anything, it got us all talking about it. Exactly what they want. I’m guilty of it cuz I know I’ll be tuning in when they square off again.
: )

Yes, very good
