With the 2016-2017 season underway now into November, teams start to really show where they'll potentially be sitting similarly for the rest of the season. This Saturday night matchup will feature a divisional game between two of the original six teams in the league. The Montreal Canadiens who since getting Price back have been absolutely destroying vs the Detroit Red Wings who are a very experienced and solid all around team making the playoffs for 26 years straight holding that record.
Saturday The 12th on SN, TVAS, and FS-D at 5:00 PM GMT (Sunday 13th 12:00 AM UTC)
Proceeds going to the prize pool for the steemit fantasy hockey league
Montreal Canadiens
The Canadians had a bit of a let down last year when their number one goalie was taken out of the line up but so far with Carey Price back in net they look absolutely solid. Montreal also traded P.K. Subban away over the offseason acquiring Shea Weber, and so far it looks to be panning out pretty good for them as he currently sits at the top of players in the NHL for his +/-. They're absolutely dominating the entire league so far this year, and they will be one tough opponent for the Red Wings to face.
Their 2015-2016 record was 38-38-6, with 88 points. They finished 6th in the Atlantic Division.
Their record this 2016-2017 season sits at 12-1-1 with 25 points. They currently sit in 1st in the Atlantic Division and 1st overall by a nice little bit.
The Montreal Canadians have an amazing goaltender in Price, but they also have a few good forwards leading the charge as well, M. Pacioretty (with 64 points last year), T.Plekanec (with 54 points last year), and A.Galchenyuk (with 56 points last year).
This Year Their Stats Are
The Montreal Canadiens[note 1] (French: Les Canadiens de Montréal) are a Canadian professional ice hockey team based in Montreal, Quebec, that competes in the National Hockey League (NHL). They are members of the league's Atlantic Division in the Eastern Conference.
Founded in 1909, the Canadiens are the longest continuously operating professional ice hockey team worldwide, and the only existing NHL club to predate the founding of the NHL. One of the oldest North American professional sports franchises, the Canadiens' history, predates that of every other Canadian franchise outside of football as well as every American franchise outside of baseball and the National Football League's Arizona Cardinals. The franchise is one of the "Original Six" teams, a description used for the teams that made up the NHL from 1942 until the 1967 expansion. The team's championship season in 1992–93 was the last time a Canadian team won the Stanley Cup.[4]
The Canadiens have won the Stanley Cup more times than any other franchise. They have won 24 championships, 22 of them since 1927, when NHL teams became the only ones to compete for the Stanley Cup.[5] On a percentage basis, as of 2014, the franchise has won 25.3% of all Stanley Cup championships contested after the Challenge Cup era, making it the second most successful professional sports team of the traditional four major sports of Canada and the United States, behind only the Boston Celtics.[note 2][6][7]
So Far This Season
The Montreal Canadiens are absolutely dominating this year now that Price is back in for them. With Shea Weber performing as one of the leagues top defencemen it looks like Montreal is sitting in a very good position to make a run for the cup. They currently have a three game win streak going on and before their last loss they had an eight game win streak. In their last two games they've beating the Boston Bruins by a score of 3-2, and the L.A. Kings more recently by a devastating score of 4-1.
Detroit Red Wings
The Detroit Red Wings after coming out of a solid slump have proven year after year that they are a team who can compete. The last few seasons haven't been their best however, they've still managed to make the playoffs every year for 26 years losing out first round last year to the Tampa Bay Lighting. They currently have the longest post season appearance streak going on missing the playoffs for the last time in the 89-90 season and are looking to extend it one more year keeping the record alive.
Their 2015-2016 record was 41-30-11, with 93 points. They finished 3rd in the Atlantic Division.
Their record this 2016-2017 season so far is 8-6-1 giving them 17 points and putting them in 3 in their Atlantic Division.
The Detroit Red Wings have an average assortment for their top point accumulators. Their top ones being F.Nielsen (with 52 points last year), H.Zetterberg (with 50 points last year), and a tie between D.Larkin and T.Tatar (who both had 45 points each).
This Year Their Stats Are
The Detroit Red Wings are a professional ice hockey team based in Detroit, Michigan. They are members of the Atlantic Division in the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL)[1] and are one of the Original Six teams of the league.[2] Founded in 1926, the team was known as the Detroit Cougars from then until 1930. For the 1930–31 and 1931–32 seasons the team was called the Detroit Falcons, and in 1932 changed their name to the Red Wings.[3]
As of 2016, the Red Wings have won the most Stanley Cup championships (11)[4] of any NHL franchise based in the United States, and are third overall in total NHL championships, behind the Montreal Canadiens (24) and Toronto Maple Leafs (13). They play home games in the 20,027 capacity Joe Louis Arena after having spent over 40 years playing in Olympia Stadium. The Red Wings are one of the most popular franchises in the NHL, and fans and commentators refer to Detroit and its surrounding areas as "Hockeytown," which has been a registered trademark owned by the franchise since 1996.[5]
They have made the playoffs in 29 of the last 31 seasons; their playoff streak currently stands at 25 in a row (1991–2016),[6] which is the longest current streak of postseason appearances in all of North American professional sports.
So Far This Season
The Detroit Red Wings are doing pretty decent this year all in all sitting in 3rd in their own division as well as 8th overall. They've won their last two games both by scoring 3 goals. They beat the Philadelphia Flyers by a score of 3-2 in a shootout, and most recently beating the Vancouver Canucks by a score of 3-1. I'm sure they'll be looking to extend their winning streak to a third game, however they do face some very stiff competition in the Montreal Canadiens.

How to Play
Vote on the main post to enter the bet (main post rewards will also be added to the Stake Pool).
Cast your Vote Bet on ONLY ONE outcome for which you bet on for the win (Multiple comment votes will be automatically disqualified by the script, unvote and revote counts as multiple votes and will be disqualified).
After 24 hours, the post and related game comments payout to the pool; remember 25% voters rewards are deducted from the total post payout value first as per Steem curation rules. Voters are rewarded in standard fashion in proportion to their Steem Power holdings.
The Stake Pool:
The remaining 75% of the total payout is paid out in 50% Steem Power and 50% in liquid currencies, the latter now varies in payout ratio after the new fork. To make the process less complicated, we have decided to use all paid out SBD to buy Steem in the internal market to create a grand total Steem Stake Pool.
30% of the Stake Pool will be retained, of which 15% will go to the writer/sports presenter of the post, and the 15% balance towards editing, development and advertising.
70% of the Stake Pool will be held until the event/game outcome is determined.
Once the winning outcome is determined, we will execute a proprietary developed script that will divide and pay out the Steem rewards equally, using the Power Up method, to Mass Distribute SP to all participants that voted on the main post as the entrance fee as well as voted on the correct comment representing the winning outcome.
Only participants with a Reputation of 35 or more will qualify to earn SP rewards, but non-qualifiers can still vote and comment in support of the redistribution initiative.
Entry cut-off time is the earlier of the post payout or the start of the event.

@steemsports in the unlikely event that when the Stake Pool is divided up between the winners and the nomenclature resolution goes below the third decimal place (example: 0.0001), then Steem decimal restrictions won’t allow a payout and the pool will carry over to the next game.
