LeBron James recorded a double-double as the Los Angeles Lakers continued their fine start to the NBA season with a 120-94 victory against the Golden State Warriors.

James starred in the absence of rested team-mate Anthony Davis, finishing with 23 points and 12 rebounds in 26 minutes of action on Wednesday.

JaVale McGee contributed 18 points and 17 rebounds, while Kyle Kuzma posted 22 points as the Lakers improved to 9-2 midweek.

D'Angelo Russell top scored for the lowly Warriors (2-10) with 21 points away to the Lakers in Los Angeles.

James Harden led the way with 47 points in the Houston Rockets' 102-93 win against the Los Angeles Clippers.

Harden shone as the Rockets extended their winning streak to five games at the expense of the Clippers.

Kawhi Leonard had 26 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists for the Clippers – who saw head coach Doc Rivers ejected during the closing stages in Houston.

France captain Guirado ruled out of Six Nations

S2.jpg

Guilhem Guirado will miss the Six Nations after the France captain was ruled out for five months with a ruptured bicep.

Guirado suffered the injury just before the hour-mark on his Montpellier debut in a 19-19 Top 14 draw against his former club Toulon at Stade Mayol on Saturday.

Montpellier revealed on Tuesday that the hooker is to undergo surgery and will not be available until April.

The 33-year-old will play no part in Les Bleus' Six Nations campaign under Fabien Galthie, who replaced Jacques Brunel after the Rugby World Cup.

Montpellier have also lost wing Jim Nagusa for 10 weeks due to a knee injury.

Two-time Top 14 champions Montpellier travel to Connacht for their first European Champions Cup Pool 5 fixture on Sunday.

India dominate timid Tigers in Indore

S3.jpg

India skittled Bangladesh out cheaply on day one of the Test series against Bangladesh and look set to take a big lead after only losing Rohit Sharma in reply at the Holkar Stadium.

Mohammed Shami took 3-27 as the Tigers - sorely missing Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal - collapsed from 99-3 to 150 all out in Indore on Thursday after winning the toss.

Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav and Ravichandran Ashwin claimed two wickets apiece for an India side with a 100 per cent record in the ICC World Test Championship.

The top-ranked nation - so dominant on home soil - were 86-1 at stumps on a one-sided day, with Mayank Agarwal (37 not out) and Cheteshwar Pujara (43no) closing in on half-centuries after Rohit failed.

New captain Mominul Haque must have been questioning his decision to bat first when the Tigers were reduced to 12-2, with Shadman Islam edging Ishant (2-20) behind after Umesh (2-47) removed Imrul Kayes.

Shami got one to shape away and strike Mohammad Mithun in front and matters could have become even worse for Bangladesh but for some shoddy work in the slips.

Canelo stuns Kovalev with vicious KO to win light-heavyweight title

S4.jpg

Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez delivered a brutal 11th-round knockout of Sergey Kovalev to become the WBO light-heavyweight titleholder and four-division champion.

Canelo (53-1-2) came out on top in a tense and tactical battle in Las Vegas, where the Mexican star successfully stepped up two weight divisions on Saturday.

Biding his time, Canelo finally got to Kovalev (34-4-1) in the penultimate round with a vicious left hand that left the unsuspecting Russian on the canvas at MGM Grand.

Seeking to become a world champion at a fourth different weight, Canelo comfortably came in at his heaviest, having previously topped out at 167.5 pounds for his super-middleweight bout with Rocky Fielding last December.

After his emphatic win over Fielding in New York, Canelo dropped back down to middleweight to beat Daniel Jacobs on points in a unification clash.
