This is the first coin of the Bhutan Lunar & Attraction series. 2016 is the Zodiac year of the fire monkey and the front of the coin is a High-Relief of Monkey holding a Heavenly Peach which symbolizes longevity and abundance with it sited on an auspicious "Ruyi" cloud motif just like the monkey king Sun Wu Kong. The reverse design of the coin is a picture of the Punakha Dzong (The Palace of Great Bliss) where the Bhutan King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck wedded his lovelyqueen Jetsun Pema back in 2011.
Actually I wasn't really planning to get this coin but my wife saw it and fell in love with this cute monkey so she ask me to get it for her as her own collection. Now I have to keep an eye out for this coin when it is release during the lunar new year period beside the China lunar coin which I am also collecting at the sametime 😅
Nice coin. The picture on a proof coin is nice. It's nice to get the wife involved.
Haha she has her own collection of precious metal but they are mostly in jewelry form. Maybe I ask her to take some of her collection out to take some pictures of her little zoo.
Very nice and low mintage, makes it all more fun to own!
Dont think the full mintage has been minted so the coin are far lesser then that.
Very nice. not something i would buy but i do have a gold bhutan solar system coin as the coat of arms has a dragon on it and i collect dragons. Great info as well
