Royal Salute is a line of 'premium' whisky from the Chivas Brothers, along with Chivas Regal. They are one of the most popular producers and bottlers of single malt whisky; a personal fave.

The 21yo comes in a beautifully crafted ceramic flagon of 3 colours; emerald, ruby and sapphire - the 3 gemstones encrusted on the

Nose: dried stone fruits, apricot-y smell, dark chocolate, hint of vanilla, soft woods
Palate: smooth, fruity, malty, oak, light spice, chocolate. Very silky and creamy.
Finish: slightly salty, dried fruits, a bit of lingering spice

The initial nose.. my goodness. Amazing blend. Complex combination of chocolate nuttiness. The smell of vanilla hints the creaminess.

Taste is quite unreal for a blend. At first sip I was very surprised. I was taken aback because it was definitely smoother than I had expected. Some people find it strange, but I enjoy the salty finish. The spiciness is expected. In all the times I have had a dram, I didn't really get the pettiness people say it has - though I love islay malts, I'm probably used to heavier peats.

Presentation is beautiful. Each flagon is crafted porcelain, clothed in a velvet 'rucksack' of its colour (sapphire, emerald, ruby)

As usual, I don't like to give number ratings for things. I believe it unconsciously gives us a school-like approach to something that should be enjoyed and savoured.

My final thought is that this whisky is

GREAT!

The taste is really amazing for a blend. It is a bit pricey, but I guess you pay a premium for the name. I feel it is a great segue into moving toward single malts.

I'm looking forward to this weekend. I'll be uploading a couple of reviews for some scotches, cigars. Main one I'm excited for is a 25 year old single malt from Bunnahabhain.

Signing off steemers!

Cheers,
Paulie V
