two-tailed and one-tailed tests:
To tailed test is a test of statistical hypothesis, where rejection
the region is located at both the tails of the probability curve of the null
distribution of the test statistic. Here, the alternative hypothesis is
of the type which is not equal (+).
Thus, in a two-tailed test, we reject the null hypothesis, if the sample
the statistic is significantly lower than or higher than the hypothesized
population parameter
For example Testing H, against H, #, is a two-tailed test.
A one-tailed test is a test of statistical hypothesis, where the rejection
region will be located at only one tail of the probability curve of null
distribution of the test statistic. The rejection region will be either at
the left or right tail of the curve depending upon the alternative hypothesis. Where the alternative hypothesis is of the type either
less than < or more than (>).
In testing H, against H1, (left tailed or lower tailed) and
H: > (right-tailed or upper tailed) are examples of one-tailed
