I Published My Content, Now What?!!

in #steempress5 years ago

Now, you publish one more, and then one more…

The famous Shakespeare dude once said: “Expectation is the root cause of all heartbreaks” and let me tell you guys, he meant it.

A lot many times we have met with people who left online pursuit of passion when they could not achieve their expected goals. These goals had most times to deal with generating an income from their talents.

But, when we interact more with the beginners [also remembering the times when I was such a newbie], we found that there are few things that interrupt the flow of content creation. In this blog post, I am reflecting on such mistakes to let you know you are not alone. Also, to tell you it is time you stop those unhealthy practices and get back on track.

We live in a world of “instances”. Instant response, instant gratification and everything we do, it has become quite natural to expect an instant feedback from real people. But, the problem is real people and real world not always work like that.

This becomes the number one reason for disappointment. These are a few tips on how you can deal with issues, very natural and humane ones, but can have an unhealthy impact on you.

Publish And Put Your Phone Down

The first tip is to keep your mobile away after publishing it. No, I’m not saying never check again. C’mon, you are a human and not a bot!

Check for the likes and comments and real time stats after few minutes, after an hour or after another one. But, as and when the frequency of it increases, there are two things happening essentially.

  1. You are wasting a lot of time
  2. You are disturbing your mind more and more

Do keep a limit or set a time to check on this, it is not possible at the starting. You are all excited to know how your content is performing out there in the wild world but give it time.

Just know that reaching people do take time. Sometimes, your target audience might be in an entirely different time zone.  And here you are freaking out for nobody checking your content in the middle of the night.

Give it time and once you know your audience, schedule your posts to match the majority mass of your readers or viewers.

But, most importantly, get out of that instant response craving bubble if you are thinking about keeping a long term with your content.

Your Skills Are Your Assets

A little correction, Your skills are your only assets. Your audience, the platforms you deliver skills are all only an outcome of your growth.

One of the biggest mistakes is setting an early milestone and then go to a plateau. Yes, your content is unique, you are unique but remember there are millions and billions of other unique talents out there.

Keep another milestone, try to reach there and be vibrant. Never stop improving and learning to better those skills. Never stop improving yourself.

Stop Comparing

Most creatives start out their journey saying I am not like the rest of the society and their sheer rebel nature gets them through the starting process.

But, after a point it all starts with comparing with others in the same field. This is a serious mistake and nothing good comes out of this, and yet many of us do this.

Growth, Success, Goals are all set different for everyone. Do take inspiration from others’ journey but do not compare your achievements or downfalls with others.

Instead, work hard on giving your 100% every time. Always remember why you started out on the first place. You are in your shoes as much as they are theirs. Don’t try to try on both together.

Don’t Let The Wrong Info Get You

Today, one of the problems having a gazillion sources of information is getting the real deal. There are many pleasing sources with fake information and there are many who get trapped into it.

Starting out only for a lifestyle you saw on Instagram can work out, only if you work for it.  Do not be a victim of an exaggerated success rate, Make a plan, stick to your schedule and work smart.

Let Your Imperfection Be A Perfection

Trying to overperfect your work can sometimes kill your work altogether. There are many files and folders that never got to see the light of the display screen because the creator thought it is good enough.

This happens mostly after an initial success. Don’t let this get to you. Publish your work on time and as someone once said “only postpone a task when you are 100% sure you will bring a better version of it”.

Know When To Quit And Pursue What Is Worth

Sometimes things just don't work out the way we expected it would. When you know if something is not working for you, I mean when you know you hate doing something but you started it anyway, just don’t drag it along.

It can only do more harm than any good. Nothing good comes out of a task done halfheartedly. Sit down, analyse, know what is wrong and direct yourself in the right path.

Maybe it is some other aspect of travel you were more interested in but you started a blog instead. Maybe the world of creating videos was not as easy as you envisioned.

Whatever the reason is, know what works best for you. That doesn’t mean something that always keeps you happy.

Everything takes a huge amount of practice and practice can get boring. Know what is worth getting bored and pursue it.
