Water is a clear liquid which is composed of two atoms of hydrogen and an atom of oxygen. It is chemically written as H2O. It made up three-fourths of the earth's surface. Basically, life is dependent on water. Our body per se is made up of approximately 60% water by weight. Like all living things, it needs water to sustain life.
Health authorities have studied the importance of drinking enough water. There were many postulations in the amount of water a person should drink in a day. There is the popular 8x8 rule, whereby people are advised to drink eight, eight-ounce glasses of water in a day. It should be taken into account that each body is different and has unique needs from the rest. The exact amount of water intake depends upon the condition of every individual. Hence, 8x8 rule does not apply to all.
What are the Benefits of Drinking Water?
Water is responsible for the hydration of cells which made up our whole being. It makes our skin soft. It is also responsible for regulating our body temperature. When it is hot, our body perspires. It maintains the balance of dissolved solutes in our system. The more we eat food especially salty ones, the more our body will retain water. As such, it is beneficial to eat less salt. Drinking enough water has a cleansing effect too. After filtration of the kidney, wherein useful substances are recycled back to our body systems, water is excreted in the form of urine. Those who drink less water would have concentrated urine and those who drink more will have diluted urine. Be advised though not to drink too much because, rare as it is, there are water intoxication cases.
Why Two Glasses of Water?
There are many ways and tips for keeping our body healthy. One simple way is drinking two glasses of water in the morning after rising from bed. Water capacity of a glass should be around 8 ounces for a total of sixteen ounces in two glasses. After drinking, wait at least 45 minutes before eating something. You will eventually feel changes in your body. Water helps bowel movements and makes urinating easy. More so, water partially fills the stomach, lessening the tendency to eat more.
