Steem Poetry Slam #1 Entry: Infidelity (Original Poem)

in #steempoetryslam9 years ago

Silence weeps its woes as I awaken
And return from the nightmare I was in
I stare at memories once forgotten
And mourn the loss of a sweet dream within
Then regret at my foregone compulsion
To kill love with the love of another
And fall deep in a sordid obsession
The fantasy that she'd be my lover
But in times of depression and despair
When the mind knows not a thing to decide
At the darkest hour, I could not repair
You waited lovingly right by my side
And now I dream, drinking wine together
In our garden, and it lasts forever

This is a Shakespearean sonnet in iambic pentameter with an abab rhyming-scheme.

Excellent work. Whats the Steem Poetry Slam?

Sorry for being lazy. Just did some research and found out.

Glad you found it! :)

damn dude. I dont read poetry but I was curious since it came from you. this is really nice, especially the last 6 lines. I really encourage you to keep going!

Thanks, I appreciate it. It's the only poem I've ever written and is deeply personal. It's the kind of original content that steemit bemoans it lacks. If I were an award-winning author I'd be trending now, but I'm not so there we go.

This is a fascinating travel through love and acceptance, and a beautiful sonnet. I can almost see a Hero's Journey from loss of love to finding a form of peace. Thanks for your entry!
