Today is My Son's Half Birthday
This year, for some reason, my wife and I have decided to start marking the kids' half birthdays. We don't do anything too elaborate, but usually just do some activity that they think is fun, make a bit of a special treat, and let them have a say in what we eat for dinner. It lets them have another special day where they get to choose some things and have a bit of agency in our family's decisions.
We started out the mini celebration by going bowling. This is something we do periodically, and the kids always enjoy it, at least for the first game. By the end of the 2nd game everyone is ready to be done. I was so busy enjoying our time together that I forgot to take any pictures.
Next it was back to our house to have a treat. My wife made a half cake for my son's half birthday. Yellow cake with chocolate frosting; my son's favorite. Again, I didn't get a picture, because I was busy being present in the moment. I did get this picture of a quarter cake after half of the half cake was gone.
The last bit of the festivities was him picking what dinner was. He selected grilling burgers. Even though it's 37 degrees (F) out, I'm always happy to fire up the grill.
It took a bit longer to get the grill up to temp because of the cold. And I had to make sure to keep the lid closed as much as possible, so it was a bit of a guessing game as to when they were done. But they came out tasty, so I guess I did all right.
I had never heard of celebrating half birthdays until my wife mentioned it. Is this a thing that other people do?
I don't celebrate half-birthdays, but I think it's cool that you do. It celebrates the kids and gives you another opportunity to show them you love them. Even if you're not giving them a ton of gifts or anything, I'm sure they enjoy the attention.

That's a fun idea. We don't do that, however we may start-at least for our middle kid who turns 4 right away on the 23rd. That's too close to Christmas so we may do summer parties for him in the future.
P.s. I cooked our burgers inside tonight because it is too cold out.
