FAILING FORWARD
Failure is a part of life hmm really is it? You cannot and will not find a man who loves to fail or plans to be a failure. Everyone wants to win and want to make progress.
This directly cuts across all spheres of life, education, to business, relationships, ambitions, marriage e.t.c. there's no one in his/her sane mind that ventures into something planning to fail even Michael Faraday (the father of failure) in all his attempts towards creating light wouldn't tell you he planned on failing at all talk more of failing that much times. He didn't.
Now what is failure in its definition?
Failure as defined by Wikipedia
Failure is the state or condition of not meeting a desirable or intended objective, and may be viewed as the opposite of success. Product failure ranges from failure to sell the product to fracture of the product, in the worst cases leading to personal injury, the province of forensic engineering.
Notice it said its a state of not meeting a desired result, it doesn't mean a result was not met its just that the result wasn't the desired or expected result but most people do not take time to evaluate the result met. It was in evaluating the results not expected that Michael Faraday discovered ways to achieve the expected results.
In John C Maxwells book failing forward he made some profound statements about failure I'll not here.
In life, the question is not if
you will have problems, but
how you are going to deal
with your problems. If the
possibility of failure were
erased, what would you
attempt to achieve?
The essence of man is
imperfection. Know that
you're going to make
mistakes. The fellow who
never makes a mistake takes
his orders from one who
does.
Wake up and realize
this: Failure is simply a
price we pay to achieve
success.
Achievers are given multiple
reasons to believe they are
failures. But in spite of that,
they persevere. The average
for entrepreneurs is 3.8
failures before they finally
make it in business.
When achievers fail, they
see it as a momentary event,
not a lifelong epidemic.
Procrastination is too high a
price to pay for fear of
failure.
To conquer fear, you
have to feel the fear and
take action anyway. Forget
motivation. Just do it. Act
your way into feeling, not
wait for positive emotions to
carry you forward.
Recognize that you will
spend much of your life
making mistakes. If you can
take action and keep making
mistakes, you gain
experience.
Reference
Personally I have devised a personal mechanism to use failure as fuel to motivate me into achieving success. The problem most people have with failure is their perception and reception when they fail. Failing doesn't make you a failure, failing makes you a fighter and draws you one step closer to success.
In every failure their are things to be learnt.
Mistakes made: when you fail it is because you took a step wrong or made a decision that was detrimental to your success, find out what you didn't do right and improve on it.
Lessons learnt: in failing there are lessons to be learnt your inability to see the lesson in failure is what makes you a failure because the main purpose for failing would be furtile. Michael Faraday was learning more each failing stage. That gave him a different approach to failure.
Don't dwell in the pool of self pity: most people do not know how to handle failure so when they fail they run back to their shells and stop trying, it is in quitting that you really become a failure don't allow it. Be self motivated. Get back up and try again. its not over until you have won
Surround yourself with positive friends: this is very critical to achieving success because there are people who always want to make it known that you have fallen short and tries to make a mockery of your inability to achieve success. Keep the company of positive people who share in your dreams and aspirations and have words to propel you into not quitting.
Remember Everything in life brings
risk. It's true that you risk
failure if you try something
bold because you might miss
it. But you also risk failure if
you stand still and don't try
anything new.
