The Moon, faithful companion of our Planet Earth

in #steemiteducation6 years ago (edited)

Many children play astronauts and others think of those stories, that the moon is cheese, to dispel doubts and guide children towards a true knowledge of this satellite, it is necessary to highlight points of interest, in order to promote research and awakening the love for astronomy.

The moon is the only satellite of natural origin that our planet has. It is at a distance of 384,400 kilometers from Earth. It has a diameter of 3,476 kilometers and a volume of 21,860,000,000 km3.

Characteristics of the Moon

This satellite lacks atmosphere, that is, it is a world without air, silent, without signs of life. Due to its small size, the attractive force of the Moon is too weak to contain the gases it would need to form an atmosphere. For being lacking in atmosphere and without having a layer of air, the Moon cannot catch the heat of the Sun to heat it at night or protect from too much heat during the day. This makes the nights of the moon freezing and their days very hot.

How was the Moon formed?

There are many questions about the creation of the Moon, there is a theory that originates from the samples taken by the astronauts that reconstruct the history of the Moon. According to this theory, it was created by the collision of our planet when it was young and a large asteroid, which reached the size of Mars. This impact yielded several pieces of Earth and the asteroid that was in space and that thanks to the force of attraction of the Earth, joined to form the Moon.

Moves of the Moon
The Moon performs three kinds of movements: The rotation on its axis, which describes around the Earth and, in addition, the one that makes around the Sun.
The time it takes to perform the first two movements is approximately equal to 27 days and 8 hours. This coincidence between both periods (rotation and translation) makes it possible for the Moon to always present the same face to the Earth. The third movement is that of translation, which makes it together with the Earth and lasts 365 days.

Moon Phases
Although from the Earth the Moon can be observed with great brilliance, its form seems to change every night. These changes are determined by the position that the Moon occupies with respect to the Earth and the sun. They are four: New Moon, first quarter, full moon, fourth quarter and Lunar surface.

The surface of the Moon

The Moon is the only celestial body that has been visited by humans, which is why it is easier to know how deep the surface is. The lunar landscape is desolate, without atmosphere or water, totally dead. The thermal contrasts between the areas illuminated by the Sun and the dark ones are radical. On its surface, two zones can be distinguished:
The Lands or continents where craters, cirques and high mountain ranges are found.
The seas, which are little-rugged plains of a dark brown color covered with a thin layer of meteoric dust, under which there are large layers of lava. At first, it was believed that this area was covered by water, hence the name.

The lunar influence on living beings
The joint or opposing attraction of the Moon and the Sun, influences living beings, making their moments when they feel more active, are called solunar.
Likewise, it happens in plants and animals that have strong changes in the different phases of the Moon.
There are also farmers, lumberjacks, ranchers, and fishermen who still carry out some of their activities following the phases of the Moon.
Taking advantage of the curiosity of children to know the universe and the planets that comprise it, it is not advisable to leave all the responsibility of teaching on the part of the school, but on the contrary, as parents it is important to reinforce at home what has been learned and the results They will be extraordinary.

It is part of the teachings of your children

Very successful what you express, as we know about a topic of our interest, we want more.

Thanks for the support.

certainly, knowledge about things is what generates love or repugnance, but the important thing as you say is to maintain knowledge and thus contribute to the development of new ideas

Thank you for your comment. We are responsible for reinforcing the teachings of our children

Congratulations! this post got an upvote by @steemrepo and was manually picked by the curator @alvinauh to be added on STEEM REPOSITORY, simply comment "YES" and we upload it on STEEM REPO Website.
