ORAL COMMUNICATION: Speech making/Public Speaking
Public Speaking techniques
Public speaking is a skill, but it is also a collection of skills. Lists like this one can help you name some of these skills so you can identify which jobs require the abilities you have. Be sure to read job descriptions carefully, because even very similar positions can have different requirements, depending on what the hiring manager is looking for.

Presentation
The most important aspect of speech making is sincerity. (Be yourself!)
- A poised and relaxed stance allows you, the speaker, to look confident and as a result, the listeners feel comfortable.
Image credit - Moderate your pace and avoid racing through your speech. Your content deserves to be heard.
- Crisp articulation and projection are essential. If the listeners cannot understand what is being said, then the ideas, opinions and facts are worthless.
- Facial and vocal inflections enhance interest.
- Avoid 'ers' and 'ums', which distract from the fluency and the sense of what is being said.
- Modulate your voice effectively with regard to volume, pitch, pace, pause and inflection.
PAUSE is the most important of all techniques:

Pauses are controlling mechanisms, allowing the speaker to hold the audience's attention.
Pauses achieve contact between listener and speaker.
They give the speaker time to think of what to say next.
They give the listeners time to absorb what has just been said.
They allow the speaker to speaker to change direction in his or her thinking.
A pause is the springboard for the use of other techniques - varied pause lengths allow the speaker to change volume, pitch, pace and inflection.
