RE-EMPHASIZING UNICEF AND ITS ROLE IN CHILD EDUCATION

Children are a vulnerable set of individuals. Hence in certain homes and communities, children tend to be deprived more of their educational rights - especially the girl child - a development that might mar their potentials, resulting in lifelong negative impacts on the affected kids and by extension the society. UNICEF seeks to checkmate these bane and injustices by presenting all children equal opportunity to learning among other needs.

UNICEF is an international body that came into being in the year 1946 with the mission to redeem children from the pangs of hunger and devastation, an aftermath of the World War1. For decades, this body remained a part of the United Nations, waging frantic campaigns against diseases that plagueed children, and supporting many with foods, shelter, and clothing until the year 1961 when it extended its umbrella to accommodate and integrate the total needs of the child - including education - into its scheme.


UNICEF is thus dedicated to protect the interests and fundamel human rights of every child including the right to quality education by providing vulnerable children around the world with access to learning and ensuring that children education adequately prepares them for the future irrespective of their sex, race, ethnicity, religion, and abilities.


Basically, the core aims of UNICEF is to reach out even to the most vulnerable of children in the most challenging of situations.

Its goals include the following;

• Bulding a firm foundation to nurture young children for school at the right age.
• Fostering a child friendly approach to education which ensures schools are conducive and more inclusive in imparting essential knowledge and skills.
• Building a strong innovative, effective, and responsive education systems with local communities.
• Offering innovative solutions to educational problems.
• Supporting countries with fragile and robust eduction systems alike in a manner tailored to their local needs, etc.

These goals, the organization basically achieves through a number of child-friendly approaches to learning such as Supporting teachers’ training and building and equipping classrooms in communities in want, securing safe and healthy school environments, emphasizing teaching and learning processes that address the child’s needs to ensure children acquire the right knowledge and skill needed at the right stage in their lives.


To arrive at its aforementioned gallant goals, UNICEF has over the years built firm partnerships with parents, governmental, and non-governmental agencies to secure funding for this qualitative educational opportunities it emphasizes for kids. Some of the agencies it partners with include;

• United Nations Girl Education Initiative(UNGEI)
• Global Partnership for Education
• Educate a Child (EAC)
• Humanitarian Education Accelerator
• The Inter-Agency Standing Committee for Education in Emergencies, etc.
  
  
  With agencies in staunch support of UNICEF, it has been able to record landmark achievements in the global education of children. It has thus far provided classrooms and learning materials for schools, reached millions of children with humanitarian and educational supports, and trained school communities and personnel to achieve a better and accessible environment for all children.
  
  
  UNICEF has thus far proved an irrefutable force in guarding the dignity and rights of the young ones for decades, thus shaping their destinies. It's been a huge blessing for generations past, present and indeed, those yet to come.
