Our Space - Part 8 Planets Part 3 (Saturn and Uranus) - Lesson for small kids
Lets go further away from the Sun and look at 2 more planets that orbits the Sun. The 5th and the 6th planet away from the Sun.
You can read the extra facts on the other planets we have done already on https://steemit.com/steemiteducation/@anneke/our-space-part-8-planets-part-2-mars-and-jupiter-lesson-for-small-kids
Saturn is the second largest planet in the solar system and also a beautiful planet, if not the most beautiful to look at.
This planet is also a 'gas giant' which means its atmosphere consists mostly out of hydrogen and helium. They are sometimes called 'failed stars' because even though they have the same gas as a star, they are not one.
A lot of rings surround this planet and it stretched for 100's of kilometers out in space. You can read more about it here.
Saturn is made up of helium and hydrogen, but consist of more hydrogen. If you could place this planet in water, it would float since it is very light.
Even though this planet is pretty to look at, it is not as peaceful as it seems. There are huge storm raging all over the planet and the wind can blow up to 800km/hour.
The planet is very magnetic and it holds onto many particles and the planet has high levels of radiation.
The next planet's name will maybe make you giggle (if you pronounce it the way it is written), but lets learn more about the planet Uranus.
One of the main differences between Uranus and the other planets is that it lies on its side and spins like a barrel. The scientist believe that is lies on its side because of an early collision that made it fall over.
Uranus was the first planet that were discovered by looking through a telescope.
It take the planet 84 years to complete one circle around the Sun - Earth takes 365 days.
Uranus’s atmosphere is mostly hydrogen but it also contains large amounts of a gas called methane. Methane absorbs red light and scatters blue light so a blue-green methane haze hides the interior of the planet from view.
Have a look at the video and answer the questions
- What was the original name of Uranus?
- How long is summer on this planet?
- How big is Uranus?
- Name 5 planets and say how many moons they have.
- Which seasons are on Uranus?
- What is different between Uranus and other planets?

The details of the planets given by you are very good, the sun is such a planet that has no dearth of energy, it has very much energy. Earth completes a revolution around Sun 365 days 5 hours 48 minutes
Thank you - the Sun is not a planet, it is a star
