Dr. Qaisar was invited by chairman Dr Gulshan to his school to adress students.Topic given to Dr Qaisar was selected by school principal, Mr. Sajad and the topic was" water related diseases". Doctor happily accepted the invitation, but he asked for change in the time given from last friday of march to the first friday of April.His proposal was accepted.Finally, doctor arrived on set date and time and was accompanied by principal to class IX. Doctor entered the class with smile on face, exchanged greetings and sought introduction from students.After that, students were familarised with the topic, that is,"water related diseases" & the lecture was started with a quote "Health is wealth".Water constitutes about 60% of our total body weight and is extremely vital for many body functions. So it is our responsibility to keep water free from contaminants so that water can keep us free from diseases.Number of diseases are caused either directly by contaminated water intake or have indirectly some links to water. We categorize this spectrum of diseases into three classes and they are:-
Waterborne diseases
Water-washed diseases
Water-based diseases

Water borne diseases, are those diseases which are caused by drinking contaminated water.Examples are cholera, typhoid, and dysentery. Water is contaminated by disposal of human and animal wastes in drinking water.
So dear students we should avoid disposing wastes in water.We should build sanitary landfills to diapose the wastes.9220913_orig.jpg

Now let us talk about, water-washed diseases.
Water-washed diseases, are those diseases which are caused by lack of clean water for washing.These diseases mainly affect our eyes and skin.Examples are, trachoma in eyes and scabies in skin.

Now let us talk.about Water- based diseases. Water-based diseases, are spread by organisms that develop in water and then become human parasites. They are spread by contaminated water and by eating insufficiently cooked fish. Example schistosomiasis.

Doctor replied that when we will not do what leads to the above mentioned diseases, we shall be disease free and being free from diseases means that we are healthy.
