purdy-steemit Dev Log week #0
Reid Hoffman, the founder of LinkedIn, once famously said:
If you are not embarrassed by the first version of your product, you’ve launched too late.
On that note, this is the dev log for the week for my new chrome extension Purdy Steemit. It is an extension that I'll be using to make various "Quality of Life" type enhancements to the Steemit.com website.
What's been done so far?
In the first week:
- Set up the GitHub repo.
- I've set up the boilerplate for the chrome extension, and published it to the store.
- Improved the fonts and width of the article page. (Which you can read about here)
- Made the Sharing, Replies and Views more pronounced. (Which you can read about here)
What am I looking to do next week:
A fair amount of this week will probably be house cleaning/framework type tasks, with some improvements thrown in:
- Flush out the README.md on the GitHub Repo as well as adding a CHANGELOG.md.
- Clean up the Chrome Extension page and maybe even ad a screenshot or two.
- Change the boiler plate to a React/Redux based one to enable a fair amount of further enhancements.
- Fix the colour of the Text Style drop down in night mode (as described here).
- Search out more and more areas that could use some improvement (Please leave a comment if there's something you'd like to see)
Long term/Ongoing Goals:
I have little to no doubt that my long term goals on this will change on almost a weekly basis, but as long as I keep making forward momentum, I'll be happy.
As of now here are some of the longer term goals I have in my head:
- Improve the UI of the header
- Improve the UI/Functionality of the sidebar menu
- Improve the UI of the Post list Screens
- Search as you type functionality on the followers page. (as described here)
- Options screen to turn on and off each of the enhancements (just because I want them doesn't mean that everyone does)
- Tie directly into the API to open up more and more possibilities.
