Don't Get Smashed | Jiu-Jitsu Sweeps, Subs & Reversals

in #steemitbjj7 years ago (edited)

I had the pleasure of joining Eli Knight in this video. We all have been in this situation, being smashed inside of the guard. Hopefully some of these solutions help. Enjoy!

If you ever get smashed on bottom, even though you have the "superior" guard position, these techniques can definitely help. These are some of the highest percentage sweeps, submissions and reversals for dealing with someone with heavy, smashing energy.

This comes at the exact right time for me since this is one of the aspects it was clear I should work on next (I just competed again and "getting smashed on the bottom" is a pretty accurate description of what happened during my first match in the open class).

I watched the whole thing, I really like Eli's style of showing plan a, b and c based on the opponents position and reaction, makes it much more applicable to real life! Also it was good to see you there getting swept over and over, hehe ;-)

Thanks for sharing, I really enjoyed the video, great material!

Getting smashed in guard can be so frustrating. Whether it's untrained energy, or a skilled person just looking to get a response, it can be tough to get those shoulders and forearms off your neck. The tiny details and rotation of the hips is necessary.

Glad you like the vid. More coming soon! You've had some killer posts lately! Congrats :)

@jiujitsu, in this case, it was an opponent that was both heavier and more experienced than me.
I swear sometimes there are these weird synchronicities, today in class our professor taught something very similar to what Eli and you showed in the video! Crazy (I guess it was because in the tournament last weekend a few of us got smashed). It was really good because it definitely helped to make it stick in my brain.

And now I can say you are right, the hip rotation/positioning is key to make it work.

Thanks for the congratulations :-). Yeah, I had a couple of big hits recently, but it has happened before: some time ago I also had a couple of highly paid articles and after that things just went back to normal. We'll see how it goes this time...

Hello - just read your mission statement. Very noble of you!
I think the release of the Steem smart tokens or Steem itself could be useful to BJJ forums.
I am Relson student since '98 although I mostly train in small spats here and there.

You are right! And I def have plans for SMTs :) glad to see you here. I'll be following you!
