What Steem seems like when you are new/ my first post.

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

Now I am sure you are aware by now (as you are using steam to view this) that steem is a social media site popularised by the fact that it pays for it's content. But for someone who is new to Steem, it can seem like a maze of words and will make completely no sense!

Introduction:

For my first day on Steem I was completely riddled by the various buttons and functions it has to offer; but sure enough after reading through a few guides that I found in forums and on the website I was pretty read up. (or at least I though I was) Then I went to make my first post... my options for rewards were.

Rewards:

Decline Payout, Default(50% / 50%) and Power Up 100%. Now I don't know about you, but Power up sounds Awesome!! I slammed down on that button, with no idea of it's function other than I would get 100% of something! That is good, right?

My story:

Next came my story, prepackaged in a word document as I was super eager to get on this site!! Ctrl-v! Boom, my words flooded the page, I selected 5 random words that went well with my story and in a rampage of sheer adrenaline I clicked post.

It was here that I realised I needed an image to go with this. I rushed onto my preferred editor, Photoshop. Copied the first image I could find on google, aligned the different filters to what I thought was absolute perfection and Ctrl-V'd it onto my page.

After 5 Mins

I came back in a flurry after 5 minutes of my post being up, expecting some 1,000 people to have commented and voted on my post; the truth was only one person had seen it. (and that was me) To my disappointment I was not this trending national superstar that I had envisioned for myself but in fact absolutely no-one. I checked frantically all throughout the evening but to no avail! Saddened I watched lots of tutorials, trying to identify the mistake that had held me back. There was no mistake only the fact that I was not a whale. (no not an actual whale, as interesting as it would be!)

Be sure to post about your first experience

Did anyone else have a similar experience or am I just rather dumb?

Feel free to comment :)

what a bummer! My biggest reward pool by far came from my 'introduce yourself' post. All downhill after that lol.

What I've learned about getting attention is that it's not about being a whale, it's about having whale friends who upvote and resteem your posts. You should also start working on getting curation rewards to increase your steem power (voting power), and if you have the money, buy STEEM to hold as steem power so that you can help others get bigger rewards for their posts.

Nice writing though, you have a new follower.

It's always great to hear other people's experiences! Thanks for sharing.
