My payout DROPPED by $1,107 right when it paid out. Left with $143. What happened?
I just had a thread which had been gathering upwards of $1250.
However, I watched it pay out, and right at the moment of payout, it DROPPED to $143.
So...what happened to the other $1,107???
I know it gets divided up, but not by THAT much, right??
What am I not understanding?
There were no downvotes or unvotes that occurred on that thread according to steemd.com/@winstonwolfe
There IS one from @berniesanders listed there, but that occurred after I was already created this post, and it was for a comment I posted for someone else's blog post, not for my blog post in question.
THIS is the thread in question. Feel free to help me look for clues as to why this would've happened
@berniesanders @dan @dantheman (can't think of any more, typing quickly...)
EDIT: As others have pointed out, this is rather ironic that a guy who had a thread end up trending titled "Forget About The Money" to which this happened is now trying to figure out what happened to his money. LOL
If there is a legitimate reason for this, then I'll accept it without issue.
There was just an upgrade, it could be a bug that needs reporting. I did not see a downvote or un-vote against your post, so unless you were hallucinating the big money it does look like something went wrong.
You should report this on Github, it's really the only way to be sure the developers see it.
https://github.com/steemit/steem/issues
Thank you, I'll try that route and see what happens. Not sure if it'll help, but I'm glad I took a picture of what it was earning at 3:01PM CST today to show my wife. LOL
I think this is not bug this is variation in Crypto currency and steemit that rules which directly intact with earning bot, in simple when you upvote to any content or you upvote o many many post then your Steem power diluted and in response your earning also fluctuate.
please read this post for detail

Here's the photo I took at 3:01PM to show my wife.

It rose to a peak of nearly $1,500 before falling back down to $1250 when it came time to pay out at around 7PM.
Ouch! that's a big drop. Good thing you snapped a picture.
Hope it is a bug they can fix.
I jut checked your post thinking "maybe" a whale down voted it or something but I see nothing. The only explanation reside in the following options ( but that would be just extreme bad luck and I think maybe it could be a bug in the system, I don't want this to happen to me either)
So It could be a mix of;
1-price fluctuation
2- most of the people who upvoted you, spread their vote power over other post ( I understand that price can go down when the same people voting you went to vote else where)
But I hardly can explain how you got from 1250 to 190 , I hope you get an answer. Upvoted you hoping to get you some exposure and catch the attention of an administrator.
And even now, it shows it at $143, which doesn't match what the payout was even for.
Hm....I'm really excited about this site, but this doesn't feel right to me at all. I watched that thread on Steemstats.com and was prepared to catch about a $470 SBD payout, which then dropped to about $75.
Somethin' ain't right.
By the way, thank you for the support.
That sucks. If it went down that much in 24 hrs, the people waiting 30 days for a payout will probably get nothing. :(
No no...it went down by that much in about 2 seconds - right at the moment it went to pay out. I watched it happen on steemstats.com.
...also wonder why you have 44 votes here already in 4 minutes and only my .11cents?
I think these bots are upvoting people posting in certain categories, I made a post about that. It may be directed toward the steemit category. Go look at the "hot section" a lot of 2-3 min old post getting up there, this should be addressed.
You can blame bots for that. When new posts get made, they tend to swarm, but they have very little influence.
they don't have enough Steem power.
up-vote bots
Which thread? give as link so we can analyze it on the blockchain
Here's the post: https://steemit.com/steemit/@winstonwolfe/seriously-forget-about-the-money
Now that's cool.
Wow that sucks!
Same thing just happened to me today on my post.
It was the first successful posting I've had on Steemit and it was up above $5700 at its height (no screenshot like you). Anyway, come payout I received $4,545. I didn't really care that much since 4K+ is still a lot of money, but I can't explain the drop. There must be some logical explanation like bot manipulation or a portion of the payout going to commenters.
Regardless I'm a noob and I am curious to hear what you find out...
Believe it or not, YOUR drop sounds like expected behavior, actually.
The earnings get shared among the author and the curators.
But 75% goes to the author (which is then split 50/50 between SBD and SP), while only 25% goes to the curators. That looks about right.
I was expecting about a $940 payout (about $470 SBD, then remaining 50% as SP). So I ended up only getting paid about 15% of what was expected.
Thanks for the detailed explanation. I figured it was something like that and I probably should have researched the payout algo on my own. Anyway, I hope you are able to determine why you weren't able to get the payout you expected.
Good luck!
Mine seems to have flipped the 25/75 rules to 75/25.
Maybe not, but that's what it feels like.
I feel you i got 178$ but get 33$ and 12 steem power , maybe the rest split to whales who upvote us . so no joke about whales upvote they only pretty on the look but result pretty sad hahaha .
To my understanding, whatever the amount that shows next to your thread actually IS supposed to be split, but it's supposed to split 25/75. In other words, the curator gets 25%, and then you get 75%.
That 75% you get is then split in half - 50% goes to your Steem Dollars, 50% to your Steem Power.
So for your thread which had $178, it should have broken up like this:
25% of $178 = 133.50.
That $133.50 for you should then be split in half, making it $66.75 in SBD, not not $33. Then the other half would be in Steem Power.
Yeah...that seems weird. Do you know if it was it at $178 at the very moment payout occurred? I've seen threads drop waaaay down before payout actually happens, but never right WHEN it happens.
Makes me wonder if I had multiple whales who upvoted me, who each got 25%, leaving me with $143.
Hmmmm.......
I hate maths but when come to money im suddenly become a math expert lol . atleast whales notice your quality content unlike mine all 60 bot notice my contents .i will change my tags if i got new post . @steem @steemit tag full with zombie bot .
The 25/75 then 50/50 split you described is my understanding as well.
I have no idea what happened. It does seem strange.
But although I do sympathize with you, it's ironic that you are so frantically trying to figure out where your payout went for a post entitled:
"seriously forget about the money"
Understandable standpoint. However, the point of that thread is not to focus on the money while being social so as not to ruin your experience.
If there is a legitimate reason for this drop, I will accept it. If this is a bug, then it's definitely cause for concern because if it can happen to me, it can happen to you and anyone else as well. I'd like to do my part to make sure that doesn't happen. It would't be fair to anyone.
That's what I thought
Wait -- this is about the post 'forget about the money'??
Seems like someone's messing with your conviction!
The mentality was not to focus on the money while going about and being social. But if the system has a bug that's shorting anyone on their earnings, that's definitely cause for concern. This shouldn't be happening to anyone, as far as I'm concerned.
A drop of a few dollars might be understandable...but over $1,000? Something's up.
No I totally get it. My posts have also focused on not focusing on the money, but what is earned is earned. It just seems fishy to me that this would happen to this post of yours. I've enjoyed a few of your posts and expect you to get what is due.
Well, and as I mentioned to someone else - if there is a legitimate reason for this, no problem. I'll accept it without blinking an eye because it means the system is working as expected. If there's a bug, I want to do my part to raise awareness so those with power can take a look at it.
I'm trying to agree with you.
I hope you get this resolved. In the mean time it's a good reminder to not start mentally spending the earnings until they're paid out.
Please keep us posted.
Thank you. And the good news is that what I was going to spend it on, I still can with what I've already earned. So that ain't a problem :)
I just want to make sure this doesn't happen to YOU.
