Steemcleaners caught cenorsing Fair Use articles

in #steemit8 years ago

It seems @steemcleaners does not believe users should be allowed to post commentary or criticize news articles even though the United States Congress passed a law in 2007(Fair Use Act) stating this is perfectly legal and doesn't violate any copyright laws.

This article https://steemit.com/news/@wakeupnd/governor-issues-evacuation-order-to-dakota-access-protesters was flagged by @Steemcleaners for 'copying/pasting full texts without adding anything original is frowned upon by the community' but you can clearly distinguish my commentary from the original article. @dantheman and @ned should have a talking with this person because he clearly is making false accusations and not following his own rules while being some sort of Champion for the Steemit community.

What is Fair Use?
In its most general sense, a fair use is any copying of copyrighted material done for a limited and “transformative” purpose, such as to comment upon, criticize, or parody a copyrighted work. Such uses can be done without permission from the copyright owner. In other words, fair use is a defense against a claim of copyright infringement. If your use qualifies as a fair use, then it would not be considered an illegal infringement.

(Original Article - Notice my commentary in big black bold quotes)

Gov. Jack Dalrymple issued a mandatory emergency evacuation order Monday directed at the hundreds of Dakota Access Pipeline protesters camping on U.S. Army Corps of Engineers land. The edict was issued as a winter storm has dumped at least a half foot of snow throughout the central part of the state.

No law enforcement resources have yet been dedicated to enforcement of the order.

Dalrymple’s order said that the corps land is not safe for the arrangement of tents and teepees erected by protesters in Morton County. He also referenced last Friday’s order by the corps to vacate the land by Dec. 5.

"Dalrymple my be using the snow, cold and this new vacate order to keep protesters hunkered down at camp, fortifying it for a showdown instead of being out protesting and disrupting the pipeline progress. It would probably take several hundred police and maybe a month to organize a plan of attack and the cold weather would only make it more of a challenge than it already is."

(This is what the camp looks like after about a foot of snow fell and it's still snowing.)

Sort:

You abuse steemit in every way possible. You spam tags to try to get more votes. You copy/paste other peoples works to try to get votes. That is not acceptable behavior. Try making something original for once instead of trying to profit off the work of others.

And because of your abuse of the site I just used a vote on this that would have gone to curating original content.

It's called Fair Use. Google it!

As for the 'tag spam' show us your evidence please.

I don't think that word censorship means what you think it means.

i strongly agree, but somehow it is inconceivable that anyx could ever be wrong.

I've noticed that when anything unfavorable is said about the poor injuns then they are attacked.....personally.

As now...

i have noticed this too. they must flag those who hurt their feels.

yup...oddly enough I have a mute button.
Now I don't hear anything they say.
I've been using that feature a lot lately.
People have the right to say anything they want to, and I have a right to ignore them.

@telos is the only person i've muted so far. i've been considering more.

Thanks @rainman for making my post visible again and thanks to everyone else that supports the Fair Use Act.

anyx thinks he's god. that's ok, i know where god lives, next door to santa, just around the corner from superman.

also, anyone else notice there are about 80 cheat-ahs, and they all gang up on certain posts? this is a malignant force on steemit.

Cheetah bot is broken. It always posts the same article I cite.

yeah, and no one fixes it and these compulsive flaggers always defend it. if they spent half as much time creating new, valued content, as they do ruining other people's good time, we might actually have less of a turnover here. i see people get fed up with it and leave all the time. End Flag Trolling Now!

or steemitsars. i think i like the sound of steemitnazis better.

Flagging is not censorship. Your post still exists exactly the way it was and is visible to anyone who follows you and clicks on it.

Why the flag this time? Just because?

Because the title/content is FUD or at the very least a misrepresentation of the truth.

Also, because I can use my steempower how I choose.

I can change it. Maybe Steemcleaners caught breaking his own rules? Is that more suitable to your liking?

i do wut i want!

does that sound like an adult to you?

The steemcleaners account did not flag your post, I did.

Are you saying that's not your account?

I disagree, bare minimum you are censoring my stream power

This is also why what is happening on reddit could easily happen here. Yet it would likely be amplified, for the down vote also cancels out potential payout that other users wished to award you. I've tried arguing this point to no avail though. The down vote for anything other than spam, plagiarism, and abuse is a corrupting thing. It presumes the just and good behavior of people. Yet really it becomes a subjective tool for bashing.

I agree, it can be also used a tool to bully and intimidate people you don't agree with. The more streem power the more bullying power.

I posted many blog posts trying to explain it. I couldn't make sense. People indicated the platform would need to be designed differently. In actuality it wouldn't. Just remove the down vote and change the flag to a REPORT button to report spam, abuse, plagiarism. Though you can down vote via CLI and other methods as well.

If I go anywhere to buy a product I vote with my money. No one else has the right to walk up to me and take that money out of my hand simply because they do not like what I am buying. That is effectively what the down vote does in terms of steem power.

Very good point. Don't like it don't vote for it, simple concept.

I think @dantheman and @ned need to address these Steemit 'soup nazi' users before they get worse.

I went ahead and wrote a post on the subject. It's been awhile since I've said anything.

Dan at least believes we need the down vote. So I do not actually think any changes of this variety will occur unless they independently come to such a conclusion on their own.

It should be noted there can always be ways to game the system. The question is would reporting abuse, spam, and plagiarism be able to head that off. Also there are ways to game the system now with the down vote existing as long as those gaming it already have sufficient power and reputation. Anytime, we suggest something should be fixed we should consider the ramifications. What would it take to implement the change? Can we think of ways the proposed change can be gamed or result in even worse problems? What are the down sides.

The only down side that is legit is that every up vote taps into the reward pool. When you down vote something you return some of those funds to the pool to be distributed to the other up voted posts. This is not completely accurate, but it is more or less the idea. It is like that person at the store taking my money I was going to buy something I wanted with, going somewhere making change and then walking around the store giving a portion of it to all of the people who were willing to purchase approved items.

One thing I will say is using your other accounts to gang up and flag people should be frowned upon by the steemit community.

The problem with Reporting is that you need someone to Judge the validity of the report/article which is hard to scale up.

The best way I see to fix this is to disable down voting.

You are limiting my future reward potential. You don't even follow your own rules to boot.

You don't 'deserve' any future reward. Reward here is subjective and this platform is voluntary.

ok but by your own rules It doesn't deserve a flag
