Minnow III – I honestly do! (or In Defense of Financial Masturbation)
For those who do not recognize the reference I am making, I will introduce this piece of 1990s nostalgia:
This marker post for my promotion to Minnow III is belated for several reasons. I had originally planned to tackle the subject of self-upvoting with a fairly detailed mathematical analysis. Then, HF20 was rolled out, making any previous understanding of mechanics on the blockchain obsolete. As I waited for the workings of the new system to become clear, I was distracted by other projects and took a hiatus from posting on STEEM. So, without going into the numbers, here are a few quick points concerning the practice of upvoting ones own posts:
The effect is largely negligible:
Numerous updates (such as HF20) have seen to that. The value of your upvote is dependent on the amount of your mana and your undelegated STEEM Power. If, like me, you keep most of your STEEM Power delegated, the financial value of your vote will be miniscule. Even you do not delegate, the mana system severely limits the power of your votes over time. Those with extremely high STEEM Power level (i.e. Whales) can generate a nontrivial monetary value from a single vote, but, in order to accumulate such a supply of STEEM Power, they certainly would have to have used methods other than self-upvoting.
We can see you do it:
… and you'll look like a right twat, if you try to deny it. One of my favorite features of STEEM is the transparency of transactions on the blockchain. Those who want to replicate the financial success of certain posts and posters can easily trace the path which the money took to them. Once you know to look for self-upvotes, it will quickly become apparent that almost everyone has done it at least once. There is no need to be ashamed.
There are reasons other than the money:
In a crowded comment section, a vote will move yours upward. Since the various interfaces list votes in order of value, a self-upvote will automatically make a dividing line between those accounts whose vote is worth more than yours or less.

Well I bought a ton of steem, made the price go up in the process, why shouldn't I self-upvote? It was the incentive for me to buy in, in the first place.
Saw the thumbnail, got the song stuck in my head. Thanks.

Good luck with that. When I came up with the idea for the reference, it took me a week or two to wring out that earworm.
Looking at your blog, it appears that you have quite impeccable taste in music. I intend to take some time, this coming weekend, to properly go through your post backlog.
Let me know if you find something you like.

Where's the rest of the post, surely some more pearls of wisdom to be added here?
Hahaha

I'm sure there are many more pearls at the bottom of this particular lagoon, but my lung capacity is limited. I decided to cut my losses and work on subjects for which there aren't already hundreds of posts that are as or more informative than mine.
Most important type of promotion is self promotion. If an author doesn't stand by their work, they are either a paid shill or producing nonsense.

This is the tough one for me. I don't like my posts in FB land, but support my friends and like their work more often than not.
And sometimes we'll have joke posts between improv troupes, but here that would be seen as self promotion.
Although I will say, it's good to be challenged on your unconscious reactions when using social media developed in this 'everything is free but your data' world.

As i saw in the trending posts almost everybody make a self vote😂😂
And the best is before you buy the promotion so your curration will be higher😉
The sad truth is that there is a hard road here to sucess. Because i dont know why but mostly the people trying to save they vote.
Or they sell it also for the smartsteem.
And also i saw a amazing good content with few cents finish.
So until you are not a dolphin or whale you have to fight your way to sucess or like this or like that😉

Good content can be hard to find and yet it is possible. On the other hand the writer also needs to learn how to get more exposure to more people . That is from my perspective .
I dont know. Enougth to check the trending page😂
But if you can get attention without self vote and bid bots than all my respect is yours.😉
By the way i dont mind what the people make with they stake.
Only one stuff i use to be angry when some people ower promote a nonsense post.

I wish my self upvote worth more than $1.00

It appears that you post regularly and keep your STEEM Power undelegated; so, in the long term, that is not an unrealistic goal.
