And the requirement of a phone number to register on steemit serves multiple functions: It enables you to regain control over your account in case you get hacked and maybe even more importantly it prevents destabilisation of the voting system through an influx of bots. Honestly I am not quite sure why you hate traditional social networks so much that you want them to "die" or "destroy/kill" them.
