What really counts is how many users stay - i.e. active users. Do you have thise numbers?

There are some users who leave.

Here are some things I would try to improve

  1. Spam comments (mast users are afraid of flagging them)
  2. Bot voting. Bots are gaming the system to milk the reward pool without reading. Popular writers have more votes than page views.
  3. 7 day rule. Why bother writing “War and Peace”, or even a short story, if you will only get paid for the first 7 days?
  4. Users want more granularity in voting. An upvote or downvote has limitations. How about a slider graded scale for quality and usefulness to other readers from minus 5 to plus 5. Keep the flag and downvote for spam and similar, but add a usefulness to others sliding scale rating.

I'm not sure if it's healthy - on the other hand, I witness the same in almost every community on the internet.

Upvoted this you make some excellent points @swissclive. The 7 day rule is particularly galling at times. I write long well researched posts and still struggle to get enough upvotes. The Bots are infuriating well at times.

Maybe could be good to see the growing rate, I mean, how fast the trend is increasing more than the number of accounts created. There are a lot of accounts without activity in fact...
It is a good indicator.

Steemit needs to fix all these glitches and bugs in their website if they want to accommodate 500,000 happy people.

@stephenkendal We are in it to WIN it.........STEEM ON !

Although really good news, the more the merier, I see from some posts that Steemit is understood to be like all the other social media platforms. It isn't and as far as I am aware it is anonymous. There are some who may think it a dating agency. Hmm. Whatever, I enjoy being on Steemit and like the community, it is the largest in scope certainly (not that I was on many before) and very, very interesting. Steem On!

For me the new users are great but the fall off of them and lack of success getting to 45 rep is the worry. I look @penguinpablo stats when they come out and the interaction, downline support, and bot action is dreadful. There's only so much little guys can do if the big guys don't.

@fitinfun I agree with you 100% on this. Steemit can become exit door for many content creators and blogger or just a normal being like me who loves to post what he knows. I feel very unfair sometimes when minnows like me have to compete with whales for the trending or hot pages. They have enough $$ to take them to the top, so we stay unnoticed. You probablly have noticed spam comments by minnows saying nice post and that's it. They don't know what the ** they are doing. They want to get noticed, so they are just commenting on posts. Some are doing it better, they actually write sensible comments which might get them Upvote by luck( depends) like me. lol 😝 Minnow's reputation can only go up when they get upvoted by whales or dolphins, so sometimes it doesn't feel like a decentralized community where little folks have to 100% depend on big folks. Minnows come and go, Dolphins and Whales rule the Steemit ocean. If it doesn't get fixed, minnows might go back to the pond where they came from, so Dolphins and Whales can rule the ocean. One thing Dolphins and Whales should not forget is where are they going to sell their steems when you have everyone to own and no new minnows to buy. They might be enjoying the price around $1 now. If we drop from 50k active users to 5k then i don't think we want to find the solutions at that time. A large number of people are joining which means larger audiance is judging Steemit now. Please do something.

You have a good knowledge of the problems here! All we can do is keep working it and grow the best we can. I wrote this post a while ago with minnow tips. They are working for me - especially the delegated sp. Maybe they will help you too. There is a lot of potential here and some of us minnows will have to grow to make the place succeed. Let's hope you and I are two of those successful ones :)

So millions of users by end of 2018? That would be great. Steem Eco-system is getting better by the day. Its only a matter of time before this blows up. Steem is still working some kinks out but we are getting there. SMT's + polishing the UI could be the ticket to mass adoption.

Yes we can and even exceed our expectation, with the passion and enthusiasm i see every steemian exhibits, It's such a fast growing community.
