We all know that social media has been hit hard by censorship recently. This was always the plan, but the pizzagate scandal seems to have accelerated things drastically. We have seen pizzagate related posts, comments and threads being removed from Reddit, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and various other platforms. Not only that, but some of those responsible for inciting discussion about the issue have had their accounts banned. Steemit however, is very different.
A short time ago I looked at my replies to find this;
My initial thought was, fuck yes. This is a first for me and it marks the next step of progression in my Steemit adventure. At first I had thought that it was posted on my latest design piece, as that had a large number of upvotes and seemed to be well appreciated by the community.
At this point, I thought about how this is something that would only happen on Steemit. While pizzagate related posts are coming under heavy scrutiny on every other site at the moment, the Steemit community has welcomed the discussion of this controversial issue. I have seen no attempts to censor the information being posted here, and not only that, but a Steemit initiative is even ranking an article related to pizzagate among the top posts of the day.
This is extremely inspiring for me. I have felt right at home from the day I joined Steemit, surrounded by so many like-minded individuals in a decentralized network where there is no oppressive authority to answer to. Yet, every day I seem to find another reason to appreciate the site more than the day before.
This is testament to the integrity of Steemit, and with mass censorship going on at almost every other corner of the internet right now, if we can just retain that integrity then I'm sure it will not be long at all before we get the mass adoption that we all know Steemit deserves. People are sick of not being able to discuss matters that are of great significance. They are tired of not being able to speak without someone else seeking out a reason to be offended by their words. Most of all, the world is fed up of corrupt overlords dictating what is and isn't suitable for others to discuss.
I'm getting a bit sidetracked. Essentially, the reason I wanted to write this post was to take a moment to thank @ned and @dantheman for what they have done here. This is genuinely the start of a revolution in my eyes, and I don't have enough words to express my gratitude towards those that helped bring this into fruition and provide me with a home where I don't have to complain about how shitty things are.
I ask that any who read this, consider resteeming so that my thanks may reach those it is intended for. They ought to know how much their actions are appreciated.
Thank you for reading and have a great night, Steemians-
I think we need to promote the censorship angle a bit more.
I agree. We are getting more users each day in SteemTrail Channels that simply want a place to freely express their opinions without the threat of censorship. From these areas of discussions, we are seeing more posts being formed and released for the world to see. Very powerful indeed.
Yes:)
I recently came over to Steemit because I do not want to support censorship, or to be censored. The free exchange of ideas and information is what makes the internet so great. To keep it that way, we need only support those aspects of the web that also recognize censorship as detrimental and therefore refuse to comply.
Resteemed :-)
Thank you. I expect more will follow in your footsteps before long.
Honestly I think PizzaGate is crazy (and I was following along all the way with the Podesta emails), but the attempts to censor it are even crazier. Even if you view it as a crazy/dangerous conspiracy theory, there is no way that trying to crack down on it is anything but totally illiberal and counter-productive.
Resteemed, great post mate :)
Thanks a lot.
it seems that's the strength of the Steem community, it's decentralized and the members decide by votes or not the merits of content. It is only going to get stronger over time with more members joining each day and that's a positive thing imho
keep up the great work. I know Titus Frost who's video was removed from Youtube and allowed to repost only after he made changes to their recommendations has spoken highly of you. So Kudos. Corruption will go down specially the Pedo community. This platform along with people seeking the same objective will hopefully allow us to bring these bastards down
YES :)
I see the trend to move to Steemit also. I know that YouTube just changed their algorithms, which has caused some backlash. I think it is becoming too corporate-centered. I think Steemit came around at just the right time.
Well this post escalated quickly.
I hadn't noticed until I came to view this reply. That's great though. More chance of them seeing it-
Steemit is the last resort for free speech where the "GOOD" is the motivating factor.
either we will grow as biggest internet social media sensation, or the elites have to bomb the internet.
I FEEL WE ARE WINNING!!!
