I, myself, am new to Steemit posting. I need some help, guidance, even pity on posting please.... At this point, I am a bit Frustrated and CONFUSED!! Let me tell you what I know and what I need so you can understand and hopefully help me, and I am guessing others just starting out as well.

This post is in two parts:
I - The questions I am hoping someone will answer
II - How to Post on Steemit, a beginners outline.

BOTTOM LINE QUESTIONS FOR ME?

  1. Is there a way to use the "editor" option so you can change fonts easily and ALSO have the Preview Box to see what you are posting before you post? OR must I choose one or the other?
  2. What formatting options are available and how do you use them?
  3. Can you make your text in different colors?

HOW TO POST BEGINNERS GUIDE (a beginners perspective)

WHAT DO YOU WANT YOUR FINAL POST VERSION TO LOOK LIKE??

Me, myself? I love to make things pretty. SO I would like to make the content more interesting with different formatting choices such as different color fonts, bold, italic, underlining. I was very sad to find out that Microsoft Word shortcuts like Ctrl+B to bold text did not work here. I also have not found color font options?
(Thank goodness copy, cut, and paste work the same. Also, Home and End buttons on keyboard.)

STEP ONE (1) - CLICK ON SUBMIT A STORY
I happily saw and clicked on the "submit a story" link at the top right of the screen to the left of the photo or image of you and ended up here in the big box in which I am now typing. So far, so good.

STEP TWO (2) Fill in the 3 text boxes:

TEXT BOXES

  1. Top for title
  2. Second large box for body of your post
  3. Bottom box to place your tags

STEP THREE (3) - THE BIGGIE...... ADD PICTURES, PROOF READ, EDIT, AND APPROVE YOUR POST

GOOD NEWS - there is a - PREVIEW and there is an EDITOR button

BAD NEWS - I do not see that I can use them both at the same time????

The PREVIEW allows you to see at the bottom of the page what your post will look like and I loved this!
I also saw an "editor" button at the right side of the page between the title and body boxes. When you click on this, you get a nice formatting bar that allows you to highlight text and bold, italic, strike through, number etc. Unfortunately, when I click on the editor, the preview goes away, and vice versa. I see no way to have both of these options...but hope springs eternal.

MORE GOOD NEWS
Some Steemians are very helpful! I would like to publicly thank two such people:

@crok who provided some guidance on how to make text italics, bold and/or Bold italic using 1, 2, or 3 the (*), respectively, before and after a word.
SO - USE YOUR ASTERISKs
One * before and after text = Italics
Two * before and after text = Bold
Three * before and after text = Italic Bold

AND THANK YOU TO

@skeptic, on posting photos who explained that to post /upload a photo, you copy the embed code from the picture hosting site, he mentioned imgur, but I know there are others, like 500PX and Steemimg.

[[[NOTE: I had to google search what a picture hosting website was, what an embed code was, and then I had to google how to find the embed code in the photo site I was going to use. So you new people out there like me, you may need to do that as well. ;) ]]]

THANK YOU BOTH!
(How did the above end up light blue???? if anyone knows.....tell me? thanks)

STEP FOUR - POST!!!!

I hope this helped others with the little beginners guider to posting. I also hope that others will reply with the answers to the questions on how to format your post better, prettier, and as easy as possible.

Thanks in advance!

You are most welcome. Glad my post helped. Please note the reply above with a "how to steemit" website reply by @pcste that I hope to study in the coming days. I am not able to be on line that often, so it is a very slow process for me...

Hi @shadowgem maybe I can give you a little help ;) I don't think it's possible know to use colors fonts don't forget Steemit is also in beta.
When you write your story you have 2 choices editor or markdown you have to choose one for a few days it's not possible to switch between the two into a story.
When you are on the editor mode you can't see the preview and you have option above for italic bold etc... Editor don't support markdown.
When you are in markdown you have to use * and # like you said and you can use a little bit of html too. And see the preview ;)
If you want to make a link use [yourlinkname]+(intenetLink) without the "+" and no space.
I use imgsafe.org to host my pictures when it's done I just have to copy/paste the link after upload.
If you want to center your pictures you can use < center > imagelink < /center > (without the space for < center > and other too at the end dont forget the /)
you can use < code > your text < /code > (without space)
For embed link (for video) use youtube when you upload your video clik share under the video and you can find the embed link.
I hope I help you ;) sorry for my english (not my language) if you have any question ask me and welcome on Steemit!
