The Asian Games 2018 Organizing Committee (Inasgoc) decided to grant licenses to 17 companies to produce and sell the 2018 Asian Games merchandising products.

Chairman of the Organizing Committee of Asian Games 2018, Erick Thohir said some of the 17 companies were from among the National Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) nationwide. According to Erick, 15 licensees are local companies.

"The question of nationalism is not to be questioned," said Erick at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, Jakarta on Wednesday (30/5/2018). "We urge all Indonesians to always buy official merchandise.

He claims the process of determining the license holder of the 2018 Asian Games merchandise product products has been transparent and accountable and accompanied by rigorous selection.

Director of Merchandise Organizing Committee of Asian Games 2018, Mochtar Sarman added 17 companies that hold licenses for 350 different products. The products range from food and beverages, dolls, wicker crafts, shoes, and so on.

Sarman said the selection of the licensing company is based on product quality and design, originality, breadth of its distribution network, its absorptive capacity to labor and credibility.

"The system of business cooperation between the license holders and the Asian Games Organizing Committee is the revenue share for the committee from the merchandise sales will be delivered to the country," said Sarman.

According to him, the number of companies licensed product merchandise Asian Games 2018 can still grow. "We are open as long as our partners can deliver products before the Asian Games start," he said.

A number of official merchandises of the 2018 Asian Games are currently being sold through the official website of the 2018 Asian Games Committee. A number of official merchandise sales sites have also been opened in a number of shopping centers, Gramedia bookstores, Alfamart minimarkets, stations and airports. Two digital marketplace platforms, Blibli and Tokopedia, also sell official 2018 Asian Games merchandises.

"Can be obtained at a price of Rp15 thousand until there is a Rp3, 5 million," said Sarman.

He said that it does not target merchandise sales during the 2018 Asian Games. In addition, the committee also allows its sales after the 2018 Asian Games event is over.

"The important thing is that partners can deliver products before starting the event, target is expected as much as possible," said Sarman.

Based on the calculation of Bappenas, Asian Games 2018 will give direct economic impact to Indonesia Rp45, 1 trillion. The economic impact comes from visitors, operational events, to the preparation and investment support infrastructure of the Asian Games that worked from 2015 until 2018.
