Why Steemit Needs your Bugs and How to Report Them
Software is like a book. It needs countless revisions to remove all the spelling and formatting issues and even then you may still find further problems.
Why is it Important to Find and Report Bugs
Steemit.com is a young project and currently in Beta. When using an early version of a book, then you will usually give it to as many proof-readers as you can. For software proofreading is the equivalent of finding and reporting bugs.
Bug reports are a great safety net for every software project. The more problems are found in the initial stages of a project the better. The reason for this is are:
- Users may stop using the platform when they repeatedly encounter critical problems.
- A bug could be difficult to fix and may need a long time to be addressed. The earlier it is reported the earlier it is resolved.
- The more people use steemit the more likely it is that bugs are found. If the most critical bugs are found and fixed at the start than many new users will have a better experience on the platform in the long-term.
How to Report a Problem
The first of all you need to determine if the problem is a user issue or if it is an actual problem in the platform.
Make sure your Bug is not a Usage Issue
Your problem could be that you do not see your hard-earned steem in your wallet after publishing an article. The reason for this is that the pay-out will only begin on the 4th of July. This would not be a bug but a lack of knowledge how the system works.
The best place to find a solution for your usage issue are:
- Submit a question to steemhelp
- Ask your question on Slack: http://steem.herokuapp.com/
Report your Bug on GitHub
Follow these steps to report your problem to the developers of steemit.com.
Go to https://github.com/steemit/steemit.com/issues
Click "New Issue"
Enter your title and description.
Make sure you mention how to reproduce your problem and what versions you have used. Once you are done you should get a GitHub Issue Id to track the issue. Developers may ask follow-up question so make sure you are checking it regularly.
Upvoted you
If you can help fix a bug, then Steem offers a trivial way to get paid. Just report on what you did in a blog post and people will vote for you.
Thanks Dan! I did not know about this. What is the tag for this; steam-issues?
yep
But don't expect too much ;) See how much this bug fix post and this post would be paid.
