Steemit Electoral College Contest - How many Faithless Electors will there be?
A Faithless Elector is defined as...
... a member of the United States Electoral College who does not vote for the presidential or vice-presidential candidate for whom they had pledged to vote. That is, they break faith with candidate they were pledged to and vote for another candidate, or fail to vote, or choose not to vote. A pledged elector can become a faithless elector only by breaking their pledge; unpledged electors have no pledge to break. - Wikipedia
The United States Electoral College is expected to vote this Monday, Decemeber 19, 2016 in order to elect the 45th President of the United States. Donald J. Trump is expected to win the vote, as he managed to win states that total 306 Electoral Votes. Only 270 are needed to win the Presidency.
But Faithless Electors could potentially throw a wrench in the whole process. A group called the Hamilton Electors are attempting to siderail the inauguration of Trump by asking 37 Trump electors to defect by not voting for Trump. If this happens, and the electors vote for Clinton, then she becomes POTUS. If the Electors do not vote for Clinton and instead choose someone else, then Trump cannot reach 270 and the House of Representatives votes to decide who the next President is.
The Steemit Electoral Contest asks the question: How many Faithless Electors will there be? Any Steemit member can participate by stating in the comment section below the number of Faithless Electors (0 to 538) they believe will vote against the presidential candidate that won their State. Here are the rules:
- Entries will be accepted for the first 24 hours of this post
- Winner receives 100% of the SBD awarded to the author of this post 24-48 hours after the Electoral College has decided
- Each Steemit member has only one choice/chance.
- The first person to state a number claims that number; anyone who repeats the number loses both the number and their chance, so choose wisely
- The final tally of Faithless Electors will include BOTH Trump and Hillary Electors -- all 538 are up for consideration
