My City, Belgrade, an Introduction

Hello, Just a quick introduction to my city. Belgrade is the capital and largest city of Serbia. It is located at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers. Around 279 BC the Celts conquered the city, naming it Singidum.

The Kalemegdan fort overlooks the city and is the best known landmark. In 1521, the fort was captured by Ottoman Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent.

Strolling along the “Knez Mihajlova” street towards the Kalemegdan fortress one encounters many shops and hand made souvenirs.

Visiting the city in the summer months will give you the opportunity to see many festivals and international cultural events, including the Film Festival, Theatre Festival, Summer Festival to name a few.

Belgrade has varying architecture, due to its turbulent past, from typical Central European small town architecture to the more modern architecture in the form of New Belgrade, a wide spacious area.

Another important aspect of Belgrade is that it has many museums, of which perhaps to outsiders is the best known the Nikola Tesla Museum.
