What you should know about Super Tuesday and its significance

in #steemit9 months ago

Voters in 16 states and one territory will cast ballots in the 2024 presidential primaries on Super Tuesday. This year's celebration of the day is rather different, but here's why it matters.

Prior to Election Day in November, this is usually the busiest day for primary elections and caucuses around the country. Up until now, primaries and caucuses have only ever taken place on the same day in one or two states.

Voters will select the presidential candidates this Tuesday in sixteen states and one territory (get it? “Super” Tuesday). A few states also select their own district attorneys in addition to deciding who will run for senator or governor.

Super Tuesday is virtually always the first Tuesday in March, just as Thanksgiving is always the fourth Thursday in November.

On who they want to run for president and other posts, Democrats and Republicans cast their votes. Delegates are then chosen once the ballots have been counted.

People selected to represent their community at their political party's presidential nominating convention are known as delegates. In reality, they choose the candidate who will stand in for them on the November ballot.

In order to receive the nomination of their party, candidates must gain the majority of them. Super Tuesday is the date with the greatest number of those delegates up for grabs.

More over thirty-five percent, or 854 out of 2,429, of the Republican delegates are up for grabs. There are 1,420 delegates up for grabs, or around 36% of the total.

Following Tuesday’s primaries, no one will be the front-runner. However, it is anticipated that former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden would get close.
