How Steemit helps people show themselves and become happier

in #steemit8 years ago

What I love most about Steemit (after joining only a few days ago) is the quality of the posts you can find here. When I think about it, Steemit really incentivizes people to be genuine and contribute valuable information to others. These qualities have long been drained out of us by traditional social media, where joking around and spreading clickbait or infinite reposts are the only thing that help one gain likes/upvotes/karma. On Steemit, we can see the beginning of something new, where information is judged on the value it gives to the reader, and on how well thought out the matter really is.

To become part of such a movement is truly amazing. It inspires me to share the ideas, knowledge and wisdom that I have picked up along the road in my life and give freely to others, knowing that those who will appreciate it will let me know. In a sense it helps me to open up and to show myself to others, something that doesn't always come naturally to me. It helps me to become more creative, something that I always knew I had inside of me, but never found the right place to let it manifest.

"We cannot measure power by how much we stand above other people, instead we must measure it by how much we lift eachother up." - Jim Fadiman

I think Steemit inspires this in others as well, and if it does, I can see how it can bring a lot of happiness to the world. Opening up, being inspired and creative, and of value to others on top of that, really gives one purpose and meaning in life. It helps one climb Maslow's pyramid of needs, bringing us closer and closer to self-actualization, which is a life of service to others as much as it is a life of creativity and developing yourself. So it is not so much standing on our pyramid, looking down on the world and others, but joining a circle of friends, each bringing their innermost talents and qualities to the table. When wisdom, knowledge and ideas spread through a network more fluidly, the nodes of that network are elevated.

So Steemit inspires these qualities in people, but it doesn't stop there. We all go out into the world knowing more fully who we are and sharing the gems we have hidden inside. This will inspire others to do the same, even when they are not connected to Steemit at all! In this kind of pay-it-forward-way, the world is already changing with us, providing the infrastructure for a more peaceful world. I'm grateful to be part of this movement and hope to contribute as much as I can.

Can someone explain something to me? Right before I got a payout it said the post earned around $88, but then I got a payout for $66.62. I enjoy being paid for writing, but was wondering how things like this happen?
