This is exactly why something like Steemit is a great concept. It actually monetizes and rewards users for providing insightful content and engaging in the community. Giant tech companies like Google make billions off of how we use the Internet - they track our progress, see what is trending and bring that content to the top for other users.

With Steemit, at least we as users get something in return besides just curated content. Granted, we all benefit from curated content, but actual monetary rewards are even better. Let's not forget that we users are actively contributing to the effectiveness of the curated content. Google's search algorithm is so effective because it accurately captures how users search for information - and they make billions from the idea.
