Actually, that's not what I was saying. I understand what you mean though.

I think if someone produces high quality content, and uses a bot to promote it, it's basically the same as advertising on Google or Facebook. They take a risk to get their post seen, and they hopefully make more money than they spend on advertising.

The problem I see is with people using bots to promote low quality posts. Some of them end up on the trending page and make it look bad.

Steemit, Inc. isn't trying to fix this problem directly because after SMTs come out there will eventually be thousands of businesses experimenting with different ways of doing things. Some of those new ways will be used on Steemit if they prove to be successful.
