what compels us?
why are we doing this? i don't mean steemit, exactly, but really the idea of putting our LIVES on the internet.
i just spent the last 20 minutes writing a blog about the choice to see your world the way you want to see it (through anger or joy or whatever) and then deleted it. and it was this weird moment of "why am i compelled to write this and share it?" writing it is one thing. but sharing it? why? who cares? do i even care that someone else knows these thoughts? not really. i wrote them for me. why share? and then the thought train says "why does ANYBODY want to write ideas down - sometimes very personal or controversial or private or ignorant - and share them with THE ENTIRE HUMAN RACE FOR THE REST OF TIME?
it's fascinating and scary and i don't really know the answer. i think we are the guinea pigs of this new technology, and it will probably be a 50 year pendulum swing before we as a species know how to handle it, if it ever happens at all. but it obviously comes from a human need to connect, based partly on love and partly on fear.
you should ask yourself "why am i doing this?" the next time you want to share something online. does it bring you joy? does it help you or someone else? is it of value? is it productive / constructive / cooperative / genuine / authentic / quality / positive? those are perhaps all good reasons to share something on the internet, rather than their negative counterparts. are you acting out of love or fear in your desire to connect?
the world is a tenuous place, made uneasy by man's negative thoughts and patterns. this disharmony doesn't happen elsewhere in mother nature, but through the creations of man. let's not turn all of our inventions into weapons.
try to spread some kindness on the internet. i guess that's all i'm saying.
peace and love from a piece of love.
