Actually an ICO is not like an IPO though they sound a bit alike. An ICO is more like a series A/B round private financing. The difference is because of the nature of crypto the ICO is available to the "P"ublic. Most times series A/B financing is private and must be qualified which prevents the little guy from participating in possibly lucrative investments. The IPO for crypto assets actually equates more to the initial launch on (public) exchanges.
