The Zero Feeling

in #steemit7 years ago

"Sign up on steemit and make money creating great contents." He said for the umpteenth time. His enthusiasm is infectious as he becomes animated whenever he discovers a new thing. I could literally see the likes, sorry, upvotes in his eyes.

First, I have to charge my phone. I rushed off I to Bathx Barbing Saloon. It is the only place "guaranteed" to have electricity by this time. As I walk toward that salon, I silently pray he has customers. You may be wondering the correlation between charging my phone in a salon and the salon's customers. I would put you out of that misery. Bathx's electric generator only stays on if he is giving a hair cut.

I was over the moon to see the long line of people waiting for Bathx's super hair-cutting skills. But this mood did not last long as I notice about fifteen phones all plugged in the only socket available.

I noticed there was about three power extension socket. Different phones of shape, year, age and color all piled into an ugly heap there. There was no space for me as it did not occur to me to come with my own extension power cord socket.

Then I realized another thing, those guys I saw sitting in the shop are not there for a haircut, they were all providing security to their plugged devices! I waited for an opportunity to present itself so that I could charge my phone. It came sooner than expected when one of the phones rang. The owner hurried to it and unplugged it to answer. I quickly plugged in mine. Wheeew!!

That joy did not last for long as barely thirty minutes of charging had elapsed the electricity went off signaling that Bathx was through with the haircut. A glance at my phone's battery revealed it was at 32%. Well, it's not a full charge, but it's better than nothing.

While waiting for the next customer to come in, I logged into steemit and started blogging in earnest. After about three hours of painstaking effort, I posted. Here come the upvotes, I smiled inwardly, and the next thing I heard was that beep signaling the end of my battery's life then my phone went off.

Ten hours later, with the battery charged, I rushed straight to steemit and checked my blog. I saw $0.00 and that, my friend, is the life of the minnow.

The zero feeling is what I have as I glanced helplessly at my first blog post.

I accept. Sorry for the late reply. Wow

This post is making a green ($$$) run, and i just fueled it to go for gold. This minnow is eating up its cousins to become a hammerhead shark. Accurate capture of that despairing feeling

you're a very talented writer because you write about the gritty reality. I have been looking for writers to show me stuff like those phones charging. This is so good

Thank you very much, we still have an issue with power here. So scenario such as this do play out on daily basis. I appreciate your dropping by and commenting, it means a lot to me.

Oh. Oh. This is brilliant. So Nigerian yet so universal to the minnow experience yet so hilarious -- like a spoonful of sugar helping the medicine go down lol

Thanks for such nice words

You are a good writer, I wish I could be you...
