Turning back the clock

in #steemit7 years ago

Today I spent time scrolling through some new user-accounts checking out their introduction posts and then scrolling through about 6-8 subsequent posts and was happy to find some really interesting introductions and follow up posts. I also found some not so good ones as well of course. No surprises there I think.

It brought to mind my own introduction post from some 8 months ago so I laboriously scrolled back to it for a read. Hmm, things have changed a little since then, with my professional life at least, but otherwise I'd probably write it in a similar way now. I did notice I said I was "40 years old or so" which was about 7 years away from the mark...But who's counting right? See my first post here

It made me think about the value of a person's first post and how it could be perceived by existing users and used to rate or judge the newbie of worthy or unworthy of a follow. It also reminded me of the very first people to comment on my initial blog some of them are still with me too. Thank you for your support one and all. You can see who they are if you check out the post and I urge you to go and check out their blogs.

So I was thinking, after scrolling back through many posts to get back to my first one, that it would be really cool to have a users very first post pinned at the top of their blog for all time. In doing so they could be reminded of where their steemit journey began and it would serve as an enduring introduction to anyone who came across their blog at a later date. It may also serve to sharpen up some of the blogs as the user would know it would be read by everyone who clicked through to their blog, not just the few who happened to catch it the first time.

It's just a thought that struck me this afternoon and I figured it may be a good idea. Of course, it's not possible in the format we use at the moment however maybe in the future it might; Maybe users will be able to work off a timeline on a person's blog and travel at will around each other's steemit journey. Above is a link to my first post so if you follow me and haven't read it feel free to do so and if you have followed me from the start head there to recall why you did!

sorry.... its out of the topic i guess.. can you teach me how you put the image on right side with code? i can not do that.

oh thanks @galenkp........... I often use

but "pull-right" is the first attribute to me.. Thanks again for it.... :)

Good to know about you through your introduction post..Australia,canada,US and european countries are dream Lands for people like me.Many people like me are unemployed and searching for good opportunities.

I admit,im preparing for IELTS exam and I'm trying hard to get into countries like Australia..I don't whether it would affect the citizens of these countries.

Yes I agree it would be nice to have an option to pin our introductory post..We can then know each other before staring following.

Thanks for your comment and all the best with your exam. I’m the son of an immigrant who arrived (legally) in Australia in 1965. I was born here. I think Australia has a reasonably decent immigration policy however it can take some time. I met a couple last night at a steemit meet up who moved from the UK to Australia 10 years ago and the process took them 2 years. They were skilled workers.

Anyway, all the best with your exam mate, and steemit.

Where are you from

there'd be nothing stopping you from adding a link to your intro post to your bio, if you feel it would add value.

I only made my intro post a couple of weeks ago, despite being on the platform for almost 3 months now...

Hmm, maybe I should do a proper introduction post myself. My first post was a Trump rant and my second one was just some random words which I decided at the end was my introduction.

If you haven’t done one then I can’t see why not. It doesn’t have to be much, just an introduction of yourself, what you are into, hope to achieve from steemit or even about what you might post on. Better to do it now than a few months into your time here. It sets the tone and can also help you clarify in your own mind what it’s all about for you. Looking forward to seeing it. I think each user should only use the introduceyourself tag initially. I’ve seen people post in there multiple times. I don’t think that’s well received but if you haven’t done one then get writing! It’s almost 9am your way and almost work time so get into it and do it during your work day. It’s Friday after all! :)

My work day just finished which makes the time irrelevant! It’s the weekend!

Sage advice. Except the thing is, I already have used the introduceyourself tag. Yours was a good read. I haven't even seen @tarazkp's. Anyway, I think my blog deserves a proper introduction so I'll figure something out.

Go for it. If you haven’t done one you should! Sooner the better I reckon.

I totally agree! I am doing a giveaway right now and I asked people to share their introduction so I could tailor my giveaway to their personality ... I thought there'd be an easy way for them to get to it. But after trying it myself, there really isn't. You'd think searching #introduceyourself and the person's handle would work, but NOPE! So, they're just directing me to their blogs :)

Any way to get this noticed by a developer?

Hmm, directing you to their blog so you can do the hours of scrolling :).

I’m not sure who needs to hear about the idea, someone bigger than the lowly plankton I am that’s for sure. I’m afraid my little post won’t go that far up the food chain though.

I don't know about pinning it forever, some people might not mind that stuff scrolling into oblivion XD Having the ability to stick and categorise posts a little better would be nice though.

goatsig

Yeah, I’ve seen time introduceyourself posts that belong in the Bermuda Triangle never to be seen again. And then there’s the one’s that keep posting in that tag, for months. I unfollowed someone for doing that. A post rating system would be good though huh? Would make it easier to refer back to them.

It's good opinion.. I like this ( design and create your ideal life)

ok I'm done inundating myself with you tonight after this comment...but I saw the content and had to respond:)

Firstly, I love your intro post, including your cats wrapped up in a blanket! We really do treat them like babies. Here's proof of my cat's horrible life here:

Secondly, I like the idea of pinning the intro post in the hopes of people really putting in the effort; it is the first impression after all! I am a member of @newbieresteemday, which started out as a resteem initiative (pretty obvious I know), but has morphed into a welcoming, educating, supporting and mentoring program for new and not-so-new folks here. The idea being that if the support is there from the ground floor, this platform will continue to grow successfully and perhaps even more selflessly...people helping people. I'm excited about it and am happy to share the love:)

This is really it for tonight now haha Cheers!

Haha, yeah we tend to treat our pets better than ourselves sometimes right?

I try to spend some time looking around for good new content and users which is why I came across you and Brian in the first place. I am just a lowly plankton however would rather be a plankton surrounded by good content than a plankton surrounded by crappy content...And so I seek it out. As you may notice from my own blog my interests are not one dimensional and so I find myself following other's with varied interests and focus also.
