A certain browser extension has stolen millions of private Facebook messages
Facebook has been struggling with many problems lately. The latest one concerns the leakage of millions of private messages from the portal. While the company has already started panicking, it turns out that this spill may not be her fault.
Hackers who stole messages sold them at a price of 10 cents apiece. The company has published over 120 million of them with over 81,000 profiles. Most of them came from Ukraine, but the problem was also affected by American, British or Brazilian accounts. Examples of news topics include holiday photos, intimate photos or complaints about son-in-law.
Facebook believes that one of the browser extensions is responsible for the leak. The company has already contacted the developers of the browsers to ensure that malware will be removed from their stores. So it looks like you have to watch what's being installed so that private messages do not suddenly become public.
