Naughty Tagger's List -- Tag spammers identified. Now the ball is in your court!

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

The list below identifies the authors who have "Introduced" themselves or products more than 25 times since the start of 2018 Only the First (worst) 50 records are printed here.

This is information only. The information was obtained programmatically and no favoritism was given to any author.

It is possible that some of these authors have legitimate reasons for using the introduceyourself tag, it is up to the community to decide that. Again, no judgements are being implied by me.

This article (post) is also being tagged with the introduceyourself category. I believe it does belong under this tag, but let me know if you prefer not to have it posted there. I will certainly listen to the community on this subject.

The list below includes articles only (no comments) and only includes posts made as of January 1st, 2018

Tag spam can really make it hard to find articles you are truly interested in when authors intentionally post their content using tags that really do not apply to their article's content

If you find this tag spam to be unacceptable behavior, then let the author know. A quick comment with your honest view point may be sufficient to make a real change. Letting them know they are on "The Naughty Taggers List" may be plenty useful.

I will be updating this list on a weekly basis. Authors who have not posted in the introduceyourself in the prior week, will not be shown on future reports.

It is possible the authors below have already made changes to their tags and habits and their newer posts may be more properly categorized. But the count is accurate one way or the other as to the number of articles in the "Introduceyourself" cateogry as of the time the list was generated.

Disclaimer -- I am still very new to Steemit and have plenty to learn about the inner core and concepts! For instance, it appears that Steepshot posts are allowed more than 5 categories.

Feedback is requested, good or bad. I'm working towards a great platform, but your concept of great might be different than mine, so I am very interested in your concept. Also, let me know if you would like to see more of these types of list.

Please resteem this post if you think this information might be useful to the Steemit community.

Hi, I have noticed that the "Last post" I selected may not be the best example of improper use of the "Introduceyourself" tag. I will look into this. The list is still accurate, but the last post may not be the best example as it may be their actual introduction after many days of posting other introduce yourself.

Probably a good idea. I think the @steemcleaners ones are probably old ones when there was no good way to talk about the tag without it being shown in tags.

I updated the list, found that my query was seeing the text "Introduceyourself" in the metadata and associating it with a tag, even it the author was simply linking to something like "https://xxx/xxxintroductyourself/xxx

So after fixing this, @steemcleaners dropped off the list.

I plan on creating this report and some others each week. Hopefully it will help curb some of this activity.

I'm debating over creating a bot to let let people know they are on the list. Thoughts?

I have someone that can comment on them and followup. The bots that have done this in the past haven't worked out so well.

Edit: I had wondered if we had done that many posts with that tag. Thanks for fixing it. Please feel free to let me know when you post reports.

Great! --- That is going to be a lot of work for someone. If it does not work out, let me know.

Yes, when I saw the number for @steemcleaners my gut told me something was not right. The last thing I want to do is post a report like this with inaccurate results!

Next run will only be for the authors that have at least one post in the in the last 7 days, so the list is likely to be more manageable for human based corrective actions.

I'll try to keep you updated .. following me of course will make it automatic.

Thanks for all the input and time you put into the platform!

Craig

Good post, as I think it is important for us as users to keep Steemit clean and block out spam and abuse as much as we can.

If we want this platform to flourish and grow, the fat has to be trimmed off as much as possible. We all own this and have a stake in it, so it is in all our best interests.

Thanks for doing this, and for sharing. Cheers.

Thank you. I really appreciate the feedback and support.

Please consider resteeming this so this list can get the attention of the spammers.

Upvoted and resteemed. You're about to become famous or whatever. Thanks for your continuing efforts and concern. You have my 110% support.

Thanks for the support. I'm looking forward to sleep actually. These projects have been a LOT more work than I expected!

Wow. Pretty useful data you collected. I think a breakdown of rewards would be good to add for flaggers to follow. Are you using Steem Python for this?

Thanks, It just seemed like we need to get a handle on some of these abuses. Putting it out for the community to see may be an effective tool. I have started "educating" some new posters in introduceyourself. example

On the rewards -- Sure I can do that. I think the next rendition will show when they joined, their rewards in the intro tag and their reputation.

I'm using the SteemSQL. The post I do with the Steemit API that I molded into one of my IIS servers.

Thanks for the feedback!

Yes, more of this sort of thing is sorely needed. We have a ton of talented and creative people on Steem so I sure we can figure it out.

Maybe a pie chart would work to save space. You're definitely going in the right direction.
I was thinking about using SteemSQL at first but it's a bit expensive at 10 SBD per month. That's interesting that you tied it into IIS. I would love to learn more about that implementation. I actually have a low tech server that I plan to start using for proof of concept with Server 2012 so may be a good candidate to set up that sort of thing.

If I can figure out MongoDB, that's what I will try to work with while it's free at least but I much prefer SQL. I might just cave and go for the subscription.

Yes, there is certainly an amazing pool of talent here.

I'd love to do some graphics, but other than importing into Excel or similar, its not my expertise.

SteemSQL is pretty expensive, but I'm and old dog and really did not want to learn Mongo, so 10 SDB it is.

So far I have not got it to work with SSMS. Just have not figured out the right connection strings, so I'm using a lightweight client for manual queries and a ADO driver within my IIS for automated queries. ODBC (ADO) is pretty much available within any MS-OS so it was pretty easy to get up and running in a hurry. I'm all for that!

Thanks for the great feedback as always!

Thanks for the alert. good job

Wow. That is a huge list and I'm sure you could keep going. As a new user her (12 days) I am still feeling my way around and trying to learn the ins and outs of Steemit. Your posts have been very helpful so far with this. However, I must say that I'm not sure the upvoting is worth it from a financial standpoint. I have done it a few times now and every time I do the math I seem to lose. I do see the advantages to getting your post active and drawing other traffic. You just need to hope that you are drawing the right traffic otherwise you will lose on you efforts. As for the introduceyourself tag, I have yet to post a blog there. I think I might soon but my question is: Does it make a significant addition to the promotion of your post? I know that I have been working really hard to get out in the community and meet users and it would be sad to see that some people are getting the benefits of a tag that is really only meant to be used once. An introduction is just that... an introduction. Why would people upvote a post tagged that way if it was anything other than that? Obviously there must be something to it otherwise why would they bother. Thanks you again for these articles @bycoleman. They have been a great introduction to the ways of Steemit for a new user. Cheers!!!

It used to have a lot more weight. As steemit has grown, it likely has gotten less profitable to post there, but we as a community typically like to upvote newbies so they can gain the concept of how this whole thing works. The problem is that you get a couple of people who either unknowingly do it or do it on purpose trying to "trick" those who vote. The purpose of your vote is to tell the community that a post you see is worth seeing/reading. That's how I choose to place my votes. If I don't think your reply is worthy of others reading it, I won't upvote you. If I think your post has value for others, I'll upvote it. I hate it when people repost something someone else posted (plagiarism) without giving credit to the person who posted the article in the first place. There should be original though there run rampant...Welcome to the community!

Thanks Bob. You make some very great points.

Yes, I also believe voting should really be used to show off quality. It is possible as people mature on the platform they also become more responsible in this regard. I guess we'll see how everything unfolds. We are really just getting started.

Thanks for the support and great reply.

Since I wrote my article on Minnow booster, so many people are now using it, it really has does not have much voting power left.

But, if you using MB, you are getting 2.2 times the value of your post. If you buy votes when the USA is sleeping it works better.

When a post has a big payout, people come and vote on it so they can share in the reward pool for that post. This causes the value to rise, causing more people to come. You just have to light the fire.

Thanks Bob. You make some very great points.

This is frustrating that people are trying to work the system. It seems to me the reason people would continually use the introduce yourself tag was so the 'whales' find their page. You only need to introduce yourself once people!

follo me and votes

I’m glad you care upvoted!!

Thank you my friend. We really need to work together to keep what we've got here!
