Steemit: @ned takes back 3 million Steem Power from 6 users...steemCreated with Sketch.

...but @surpassinggoogle keeps his additional power...

Some thoughts as to why this was granted in the first place, and recently removed.

Background

Yesterday, @ned took back 3 million Steem Power, 500,000 from @linuslee0216, @htliao, @tumutanzi, @nicolemoker, @ramengirl, and @sweetsssj.

Was this just the end of an experiment that began on the 8th August, or are there other reasons behind this decision?

I would really like to put forward a few questions at Steemfest to @ned regarding this.

Previously, I wrote a blog titled Meet Steemit's first Community Owners and Administrators in which I speculated that the delegation of this Steem Power to 7 users was the beginning of an experiment in Communities - The 7 delegatees being potential community leaders, or representatives.

My thoughts at the time behind the reasoning for this delegation included:

  • These users excel in particular communities that Steemit (@ned) sees as strong growth areas

  • They have been entrusted with Steem Power to grow their communities (and thus the platform)

  • These users either live in, or have a language native to a strong growth area, plus a good level of English

  • I think this is the beginning of communities on Steemit, whilst we wait for the interface to appear. @ned is clear on where he see's potential for the most growth, and has seemingly put his money on it being Asia.

The test is over?

So with the undelegation of this huge amount of Steem Power, some questions spring to mind.

Was this a test, and how did @ned feel it went?

Were the users entrusted with this huge amount of Steem Power putting it to the 'right' use?

And perhaps the biggest question of all, why not undelegate from all 7 'trialists'?

And the 'winner' is?....

Initially, 7 users were given this Steem Power boost. However, one user, who many will know as 'yer boy Terry' and has the handle @surpassinggoogle, still owns 500,000 delegated SP from @ned.

Personally, he is the user from the 7 that I have interacted the most with (although @htliao and @tumutanzi have kindly supported my curation blogs). You will see @surpassinggoogle supporting many initiatives across Steemit including the likes of @steemgigs and his hugely popular 'Untalented' tag in which many users have submitted 'Who am I' style blogs under said tag.

These ventures, and additional personal touch that Terry provides here on Steemit, could be why he has kept the Steem Power entrusted by @ned. I am, and i suspect many others are too, really happy to see this as I have seen the encouragement he gives across the platform. This is summarized nicely using this chart from steemreports.com:

And here we have the vote distribution for all 7:

Data is king.

Over to you

So friends, what do you think about:

  • @ned's initial decision to delegate 3.5 million Steem Power to 7 users

  • The reasoning to take it back now

  • Why you think @surpassinggoogle still holds 500,000 of @ned's SP (I hope he's not just forgotten and removes it today!)

As usual, more questions than answers, but what an interesting topic!

Thanks for reading today

Whatever @ned reasons are, i think, in the course of delegation period, not only it was an experiment by ned, it also an experiment of handling self-restrain . You know what people would say before and would do after they would get money. Im not saying bad things . But in this experiment, who truly a leader was really showing, so I hope this is what ned hoping for.

Meanwhile, popularity does not mean you are a leader, it just means that you are popular.

What we can take from this lesson are, that ned value who can contribute more to steemit and for the longetivity of this platform thus trusting 7people to manage huge steem power.

This wonderful comment has received a bellyrub 6.72 % upvote from @bellyrub thanks to this cool cat: @abh12345. My pops @zeartul is one of your top steemit witness, if you like my bellyrubs please go vote for him, if you love what he is doing vote for this comment as well.

Hey there!

Hi!

Any more to add today? :)

Because among all who have been delegated, @surpassinggoogle did the unconditional way of giving back to the community. More of it, he spent so much time curating posts from the #philippines tag. Its undisputable that Philippines' making a good wave of traffic on steemit and promotion is exponentially growing! 😎😎😎

Edit: This is a good post for throwing speculations to why did @ned undo the delegation.

Yes he did, and will continue doing an excellent job, not just for the #philippines tag i am sure!

Thanks for your comments :)

Yes, that's steemit is about-empower others

I believe I was the only person in the Philippines that didn't get a help from him LOL

On another note, @ned, if you decide to do that again, I nominate the humble @reko. Check out what he's doing 😎

Thank you for the nomination @enginewitty, @jonsnow1983! I won't disappoint, working 24/7 building up momentum and promoting the Steem blockchain! Massive action is imminent! 👍😀

Sverige_reko

You're the only person I know showing proof of bringing new members to the platform over there in Sweden. I think it's awesome.

I second this @reko @enginewitty

You assume he checks my blogs 😂

I'll ask him next week what the plan is 😁

ahahah that gave me a good laugh! :)

Me too! I'm just sat here waiting for @ned to drop a $100 on my blog 😁

hehehee! still waiting! Maybe he will delegate you power next! :)

I think he should - I'll ask him next week!

hahah put in a good word for me :P

Lol right on, keep me posted 😉

Since I am relatively new to steemit I wonder if he delegated to them for being active Steemians. Who would not want to be delegated with such. I don't know why he took it back but it is his choice. I don't know why he delegated it but it was also a good choice. @surpassinggoogle has used his votes the most so...

Great post man!! It would be interesting to see how many self votes the other delegates made. With that being said @surpassinggoogle clearly voted much more than the rest so if that is the main reason, gg :):) For now, it's pure speculation however interesting none the less. Cheers!

Here are the self-vote details for each of the seven. Read these figures however you fancy 😊

UserUnique User Votes% Self VotesSelf Votes Position

Another factor to look at is how much voting there was between the seven. Here are the steemreports links if anyone wants to explore that further :

Nice!! Thanks for the extra effort. Much appreciated :):)

Thanks!

You can check who's doing what on Steemreports.com - self votes and spread of votes.

With 500,000 SP, you can vote at 5% and really boost a minnow, plenty to go round.

Have a good day, cheers!

Awesome, thanks!! I'll definitely go and have a squiz.

Yeah, I had a look and to me at least, it appears as if @surpassinggoogle was the most selfless in the exercise. Some individuals selling votes with @ned's delegated SP not only seems wrong but very unwise as well. Thanks for the post link :):) Cheers!!

Good article (not voted yet)
My guess is Ned took that back one week before SteemFest, probably part of the reason being the fest use.

oooh, do you think he's sharing it out between us? YAY!!!! :D

Thank for your comments Joy, see you next week!

Sharing out between us sounds like a good dream.
I think that was just an experiment, I checked http://www.steemreports.com/outgoing-votes-info for the outgoing votes charts, I have to say @surpassinggoogle is doing a great job.

I do think it's actually hard to keep outgoing votes spread out like this, which needs putting a lot of time and energy. I don't think those 6 's charts look that bad neither. Of course myself was the beneficiary of Ned's delegation, honestly.

Look forward to discuss more with you guys in SteemFest.

Hi again Joy

Thanks for the reminder to check Steemreports, i have updated the post a little.

I'm not surprised with regards to the charts I see.

Yes, we can discuss this interesting topic more next week :)

Out of the lot, it really does seem that @surpassingoogle was the one who was making more on n impact on Steemit than the rest, I can't speak for all of them, but @surpassinggoogle, as you mentioned in your post itself did, in fact, seem to bring the most value in supporting and educating of minnows and aid the overall growth of Steemit and it's user base.

It'll be interesting to see where the @ned's SP will go after this.

My vote is for @curie to get come of that SP, the work they are doing is immense.

God Speed Brethren.

I side with your comments, although it is difficult to know exactly how much the others were doing for their communities as many blogs were in Chinese or Korean.

Personally, I'd like to see some delegation going to @stephenkendal and his #promo-uk team. There are also other groups of folks in other parts of the world doing similar work and it would be great for these people to support the new members they bring on board.

Thanks for your comments!

Asher

Hi, I was not even aware that the delegations were from @ned. I always thought they paid for the leases from some bots like @minnowbooster etc. It makes sense to me now. I support your theory that @surpassinggoogle has been very active in growing and supporting minnows, I can attest to that. My opinion might be biased because of that, however, I think he has been doing a tremendous job. I hope he will get to keep the delegation forever. He is truelly an inspiration to many. I can't say much about the other delegatees, I never had any interaction with any of them, they seem to be hard to reach... anyways this is a great post. Keep us updated with your findings.

I could not agree more!

Thank you for your comments :)
