As various other fields, international development is going through an huge transformation that is impacting the industry’s human capital and talent landscape. Multiple issues are converging to accelerate this transformation, such as technological advancement and increasing private sector engagement. It is hard to think of a field that is moving faster or requires more creativity, flexibility and problem-solving than international development. These trends will require new ways of thinking, working and learning.

Global development is a complex and evolving industry supported by a tremendously diverse group of professionals. The infrastructure engineers and education specialists. The agronomists and economists. Across this wide spectrum of development sectors, careers and specializations, one feature that has always brought these individuals together is a shared desire to make the world a better place through their work. And today they have something else very much in common: their jobs – and the skills required to perform them effectively – are changing radically as the development field and the world transforms.

A decade from now development professionals will not look the same. One reason is technology.

In an effort to really get to know the Next Generation Professionals, @globalschool, @generationeuropa, @opt2o, Internet of Ideas (@innovations) and Solidarity World @solidarity cooperated and challenged hundred students in vocational training to become young professionals – donor and government officials, development consultants, NGO and social business workers, among others – working across regions and sectors.

From 2015 on, receiving the European Youth Award for our project "fostering local democracy in a changing world", we discovered the community was already grasping the importance of new ways of thinking and doing, including how data-driven and evidenced-based programming, multi-disciplinary approaches and the right balance of people and technical skills were influencing global development. And in 2018, @globalschool participants underscored those beliefs and revealed significantly more…

Global development is undergoing a dramatic transformation that is impacting the industry’s human capital and talent landscape.

More simply heart is not enough in the developement industry and brains need the synchronize and cooperate. What people need in the future is creativity and flexibility to adapt to new challenges and ways of understanding the world.

All the cycles are taylored for each participant considering their goals, plans and or motivation. After the welcoming session you'll be invited to select a community project as a mission to lead during your cursus at the globalschool.
