Hunter's comment

Ductile Cementitious Composite (EDCC), developed by the University of British Columbia in Canada, is an earthquake resistant concrete that can be applied to walls of old building that do not comply with the new earthquake resistant codes. It can be sprayed on existing walls allowing them to withstand tremors that would otherwise reduce them to rubble.

EDCC contains polymer-based fibers that give it a strong but pliable quality which makes it flex under pressure instead of crumbling like traditional concrete.

Additionally 70% of the cement in the product is replaced by Flyash, an eco-friendly industrial byproduct.

In lab tests, a 10 mm layer of EDCC was applied to concrete walls and subjected to tremors of a 9.0 - 9.1 magnitude. The walls help up well while the uncoated ones crumbled to the ground
