Endangered Plants in Endangered Indonesia
Rafflesia Arnoldii
Giant Padma or Rafflesia Arnoldii is also a giant flower that gives off a foul stench when it blooms. Because both emit a foul odor, sometimes many people mistakenly call this flower a corpse flower.
Rafflesia Arnoldii grows sideways and not rises like a corpse flower. When the flowers bloom, they can reach 1 meter in diameter and weigh up to 10 kilograms. The period of growing up to the bloom is around 9 months. This flower will only bloom for 7 days before then withering and dying.
Rafflesia Arnoldii flowers live on other plants. Therefore, the habitat is very dependent on the presence of host plants. At present this bungai population is shrinking due to its increasingly narrow habitat due to the conversion of forests to agricultural, residential or mining areas.
